Just thought I would introduce myself, took my CBT and bought myself a bike this week, a Honda CBF-125.

Managed to get her for a tidy price, one previous owner who used it to pass his test, and only 4000 miles on the clock.

Plan is to ride her for the next few months to get in and out of college, get comfortable on her and then take my test so I can lose the L plates!

Sounds like a plan Smile

You are taking the best route possible in biking at a young age!
Just look up mod1 excersise on YouTube etc...
And incorporate these into your everyday riding, life savers, indication all things like that !

All the best and welcome Smile

Welcome to BCF, as said keep doing all the obs, signalling etc & you'll find that you do them without thinking about doing them which will help you pass your tests. Best of luck & ride safe. Thumbs Up

Cool bike. I'd start booking your theory and maybe mod 1, depending on local waiting times, so you can make sure you squeeze mod 2 in before the January deadline.

Well, don't hang around, licensing laws are changing in January 2013 and the tl;dr version is that you're better off passing under the current system. There are long booking times as some test centres, so the sooner you get started, the better.

Enjoy it, they're nice looking bikes, but stay on top of the maintenance, we've seen some issues.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!

To my understanding as I'm 24, 25 in November, the new licensing restrictions didn't really affect me. Taking the 125 test should allow me to ride up to 33bhp still. Have I missed something?

The plan either way is to try and get my test passed as soon as waiting times allow Smile

Yeah If you pass on your 125 you'll get the 33bhp restricted licence but if you wait until next year, you take your test on a 125 to be able to ride a 125, something shitey like that anyway. Get going Razz

If you get your theory, mod 1 and mod 2 done on a 125 before January 13th 2013, then you'll be restricted to riding any bike up to 33bhp for a period of 2 years. When the restriction expires you can ride any bike.

If you do the tests on a 125 after this date, you will be restricted to riding a 125, tho you will be able to remove your Ls, carry a pillion and go on the motorway.

Riding a bigger bike will then require you to do a test on a big bike, no doubt after so may lessons on a school bike, probably costing about £600-700.

So if you pass before January, then no the restrictions won't really affect you, so far as we currently know, since everything is subject to the changing whims of the EU monster.

Oooh, shiny! That's a very nice bike.

BUT, you want to get your tests done ASAP before the new regulations come in next January! I'm sure someone has already mentioned this. It's the impending doom that all new bikers are rushing to avoid!

hiya mate and welcome!
i'm new to the site myself but have been riding for 4 and a bit years.
my advice, take it easy. don't get over-confident. i've made a couple of stupid slip ups and regretted it.
also it goes without saying, but very nice bike.

Nice Bike

Do the tests now.

You have the CBT, the theory is a given anyway.

Mod 1 is about £15, so unless you're one of these faffing about, dithering types just book it and do it.

At that price its cheaper to do the test and fail for practice than do a lesson about it.

Nice bike buddy Thumbs Up

Trust me. Just book the test! I dithered about on a 125 for 5 months, only did my Mod 1 today. Wish I'd done it sooner!

Get 'em booked lad!

Do you have to complete your theory prior to Mod 1?

I will be booking my theory for around 2 weeks time as I'm shortly due to move back to uni in Southampton.

Yes. I can't remember whether you need your theory to book your MOD1 tho'. If not, book it now for at least 3 days after your theory, that way you won't have to wait as long once you've passed your theory. If you do fail, then you can move it free of charge up to 3 days before the test.

You need to pass your theory test before you're able to take Mod 1, when you got for your Mod 1 you need to produce your provisional license/full driving license, your CBT certificate and your theory test pass letter (which is issued to you immediately after the theory test.......Provided that you pass. Wink ). Without these documents the examiner won't start Mod 1 so get the theory test done and DON'T FORGET to take all your documents with you to Mod 1 & Mod 2 (you'll need to take Mod 1 pass certificate to Mod 2 when you go for Mod 2).

If you haven't got all the doc's they won't do the test, when I went for my Mod 1 retest they wouldn;t allow one guy to do the test as he didn't have the counterpart of his driving license. Rolling Eyes So they're strict on having all the relevant paperwork on test day, good luck. Thumbs Up

Good stuff, well done gent. There are sites which have mock theory tests if you don't have access to the practice DVD.
