Hi All

Bought a 50cc peugeot speedfight scooter for the stepson last week cheap as chips as it was sold as a non runner. The battery was flat and it wouldnt start with a jump. As these bikes have issues with the immobiliser which is built into the CDI, I purchased a bypass CDI without the Immobiliser.

That arrived this morning so fitted it along with a new coil, lead and plug. Bike started first go but was lumpy and (blue) smoky. turned it off and drained the old fuel out, took the carb apart and cleaned it all up. Tried again with fresh fuel and it started but then died and wouldn't start again.

Its getting spark. Its getting fuel as when opening the drain on the bowl there is fresh fuel. I did a compression test and its holding 8.5 bar. Pulled the head off and the piston/rings/barrel all look good (bike only done 5k). The only definitive fault I have managed to find is the oil pump doesnt seem to be pumping oil to the carb. There is oil getting to the pump, ive bled it but there is nothing from the outlet to the carb.

I have a new pump on order but my question is would no oil in the mix stop it starting?

cheers
Steve

Don't run it without oil!

Running it with no oil getting to the engine is just asking for problems. Running a two stroke without oil for a few seconds is enough to wreck the engine. Shocked

What do you think the Oil is for?

to lubricate part's stopping them from wear and to move freely with other part's like the Piston ring's against your barrel. if you did not have Oil in your engine chance's are you have wreaked your engine already, and shored the bore and you will need a new engine Thumbs Up

Hi

Yes I'm fully aware of the implications of running dry and am thankful that the bike wouldn't run. I am unfamiliar with 2t engines and was more curious as to why it wouldn't start. The piston, rings and barrell all look fine, no gauges or any marks and the rings were all in tolerance. I checked the reeds today and all was well

I can only presume the previous owner was running it on premix to counteract the u/s oil pump hence the lumpy running when it first ran on the old fuel.

I have an oil pump and gasket set on order so will see what happens when I build it all back up.

Cheers
Steve

hi i have recently brought a Peugeot speedfight 2 50cc Air cooled (AC), it was running a bit 'crapy' by bogging out and loss of power. sat still with full throttle not going any where. it ran out of fuel so i put 1/4 tank in and once started it wouldn't rev up, when it did the petrol just kept coming out of the side of the carb and then cut out again and so fourth. it did this a few times and would start at all now, so i took the carb of to see if the float was stuck and it wasn't. the bike still wont start now and i was wondering if anyone could help? i think it could be the rings but i have been told that it still has 'good' compression. the bike has done 14k, been told the cranckseals can wear or leak causing it to run 'crapy' and then struggle starting, it has a new plug and battery. please help.
thanks Sam. Smile
