I know some people will have a selection of biking gear to choose from but some people like meeeee only have 2 choices.... wear the only padded gear i have, or not at all. Id rather wear it Wink im the kinda guy who would come off the first time i went out with jeans + shirt.

Cant help wonder if the wind will keep me cool or if im gonna cook... i have a pair of padded jeans, padded textile jacket and textile padded gloves.

what do you wear when riding in this heat?

I was out today in East Anglia, allegedly the hottest area; Held Hakuna jacket with all 6 front and 5 rear vents open. I was comfy enough, didn't find it unpleasantly hot; didn't get around to removing the side panels. Some Hein Gericke perforated leather gloves I picked up a year ago kept my hands in constant airflow all over.

It doesn't really get hot enough in the UK to start bringing out the big guns, even today was pretty mild. You'll know it's really hot when opening vents is more uncomfortable than leaving them closed. In that scenario, you need to start looking into cooling vests, which can work by pre-chilling, evaporation or even powered vests with a heat pump.

All my normal gear - textile jacket and pants, helmet, gloves, boots. Just keep moving, open your visor a crack, if you have any vents or zips on your kit then open them.

It's not worth losing your skin trying to keep cool.

my normal jacket with the inner removed.. my thick gloves, jeans,
and a pair of cats. same gear year round for me.

Coming off hurts more than buggery when you have the right gear
on. stuff trying what it feels like in sandals, shorts and a t-shirt.

i think the best advice is to wear your normal riding gear, take a bottle in a rucksack with a freezer block chucked in as well to keep the water cool and if you start to feel overwhelmed or that sort of feeling coming on, pull over as soon as safe to do (or if an emergency ASP) get your gear of and take a small amount of water, swish it around in your mouth, spit it out, drink a little water and put a bit on your forehead and hands.

rehydrate with the rest of the water and then plod on, if you find somewhere to get more water, stop and refill.

no point compramising your safety just to get the wind in ur pits.

as for today being mild, sod off was it! went for a ride with knight today and the tarmac was melting!

Usual gear I always wear, leather jacket & trousers, Sidi boots & Spada gloves (& my lid obviously). I'd rather lose a pound of sweat than a pound of flesh. Wink

Meh, not this again. Rolling Eyes

I normally wear all my gear in this weather, but when I popped to shop the other day, I wore leggings (non biking type) strappy vest, boots gloves and lid. And it felt fucking GOOOOOOD. Cool

I know the risks but its my choice.

Like others, generally the same gear - Belstaff Brando style jacket, jeans, summer weight gloves, lid, shatterproof shades and trusty magnum boots. If its chilly of a morn I add a scarf and I've got thin waterproof trousers. This is the British summer after all! I can always wear my proper bike trousers with just thin running tights underneath too.

As long as I keep moving and have my long hair out of my jacket instead of tucking it in as normal I'm usually ok, although practicing manoeuvres yesterday in full sunshine was rather toasty.

I've seen a lot of people riding in shorts, t-shirts and even sandals recently and I hate to say it but a lot of them were on proper bikes, not just the scooter brigade (who round here are mostly chavs and therefore stupid anyway). The memory (and knee scars) of spilling it at 30mph when I first started out are too fresh for me to consider not wearing decent gear!

You have your own decision to make on risk assessment and your own confidence in hazzard perception.

Tally that with the bike your on and the weather, and how you percieve being uncomfortable can be detramental and increase said risks.

Then you have journey time and roads to be taken.

I consider all these options before deciding on what gear to wear, although somtimes it's a rush job whatever i'm wearing at the time.

If i can get many years of fun comfortable biking at the cost of a worser injury ie skin graft etc, then so be it, lives for living, and none more so when your out on your bike in the sun, and feeling comfortable.

If i go on a hoon or a journey of plus 20 miles, then the risks go up, and the gear goes on more and more.

Come the winter it's easier to wear the gear, and be protected and comfortable.

Gear is good, but when riding last summer in 30 degrees, a thinner jacket is soo nice.

Kevlar lined jeans (Draggin', but I'd suggest Sartso or Hood), lightweight hybrid textile/leather jacket with the vents open and partially unzipped, Diadora breeze boots, open face helmet, knitted kevlar gloves.

Of course, that was on the way to the shops. On the way back, it was waterproofs as per usual. Doh!

My FT Aqua jacket is surprisingly cool with all the vents open and partially unzipped in this heat.
My new Sartso Killer kevlar jeans are a nice comfortable replacement for my textile trousers as they have no vents and HG summer gloves are working out well too. Thumbs Up

It depends how far and where I'm going. Any faster than 40 and more than a couple of miles and I'd wear jeans with my leather jacket, maybe a hoody. If I'm going down to the shops I'll shorts and tshirt with a pair of converses. Never feel safe wearing shorts though.
