Suppose I could have kept it quite and Teflon-Mike would never have known but (youtube) here's what happened (or vimeo version if you prefer) at 1529 miles....

Really disappointed in myself. It tipped it down for a short while and then stopped. I decided it would be better to make my way home.

Not following my own instinct which told me to go straight on and take the main road.

Damage to bike is the bit on the end of the right handlebar, foot brake is slightly bent, some scratches to the underside of the exhaust chrome cover.

Damage to me minor abrasion, massive hit to my pride, hugely disappointed in myself. I knew it would be slippery, just not riding slowly enough. At 0:36 you can see I'm just confused and can't work out how to turn off the indicator.

Incidentally, if you let the videro run to the end you'll see the VW Golf wheel spin as it tries to take the corner. Not an excuse, I know.

Teflon-Mike I'll buy you a pint sometime as penance.

I still do not regret buying a new bike.

I bet most of us have had similar accidents when we were learning. Just put it down to experience

I imagine most of us have done it, not only when we were learners as well. Consider it a right of passage.
Still you're OK and the bike will get fixed fairly cheaply.
I agree with some of the others that it would have been better to brake earlier. Those junctions can be really dodgy in the wet with diesel spills, white lines, manhole covers etc. Watching the video I was with you all the way, thinking, "I can just make it across before the oncoming car".
At least it was the back wheel that went. A front wheel going is much scarier in my opinion.
In the wet, ride like your grandad, unless your grandad is an utter nutter, and watch out for anything that might be slippy. Even a single cat's eye can be enough if you hit it wrong.

dont stress it, we all have tumbles, is the "joy" of learning to ride. the parts can be replaced easily enough and are fairly cheap so i wouldnt even give that a second thought

The main thing is you being ok, which i guess you are

You actually shouldnt be on the brake at all while turning. Looks like you leaned and brake?

And it is wet.

As someone who rides with knobblies, I am very wary of wet, as knobblies and wet are very slick. I dont use any brake while cornering.

Well you not hurt and the bike isnt too bad off. Cheap lesson.
