im thinking of getting my gsf 600 frame powder coated, i know that i have to re-tap the threads but my main concern is for the head stock what should i do to get it clear of paint? wire brush and lots of patience?

Mask it off in advance. Clearing out the coating from threads and the like is a pig of a job.

Plastic (or metal) bungs are best, Powdercoater might have some.

Surely any powder coater, worth their salt, would know to blank of anything important.

When I had my two frames done by a local company (Letchworth), I pointed out what threads I didnt want buggering up, but they were already aware of thread problems and headstocks/bearings etc and use rubber plugs and high temp tape to mask/protect. I guess the advantages of talking in person to the company doing the job.

+1 there is a company called Triple S that specialise in bike/car bits. They will be more expensive than the local industrial place but they will be well aware of what needs masking.

Also put a bolt in any threaded holes you can. Thumbs Up
