Had a look, theres a few small holes that are ment to be there i think but how the hell a screwdriver worked its wayt through one of them i dont know, might of taken another route but cant really see how, it must of been lying loose in there as theres no way it woulda come out the tool bag aswel, fucking bad luck by the looks of it, you live and learn i guess, i wont be keeping anything like that in there again....
Do you think the rear hugger will be ok to use for a bit? as you can see its just lost a bit where the screwdriver hit it.

i wouldn't use the hugger as some shards could come off and damage a new tyre or other parts of the bike. Best not take chances when the wheels are what keep you on the road Laughing

Has the screwdriver snapped from the handle as the bit sticking out looks like the end you put into the screw?

Is it definitely your screwdriver?

Either way, good going, that's pretty impressive Thumbs Up .

Toolkit screwdrivers are usually reversible - i.e. the other side will be a cross head screwdriver and you fit it into a handle.

Very impressive all the same!

Could that actually be plugged? never attempted to get a bike tyre plugged before? Had a car tyre done a few year back though.

I reckon it'll plug. Can't hurt to ask.

You ream out the hole to about that size to fit a plug anyway and it's on the main part of the tread.

?

Only supposed to plug the middle 50% of the tyre, and there is substantial ripping of the tyre tread around the hole.

No chance I'd ride on it.

Holy Moly !

That puncture is second only to the one my mate picked up on his SRAD a few years back. He stopped to find a pair of scissors sticking out of his rear tyre that he has collected from the road !
That cost him some of his hugger too. Sad

I reckon you could get that tyre plugged and use it, if only till your flush enough to buy new rubber later on. Smile

If you are good with hands on stuff, do it yourself, it's not to tricky to do..... or do a google search for fiber glass repairs in your area and ask them if they would do it. Thumbs Up

You can generally fix a hole up to 1/4" in diameter with a mushroom plug.

The screwdriver might only be a few mm or so, but look at the damage around it, there is a deep gash about an inch long - looks like a rip from the screwdriver going in at an angle and being forced straight or vice versa. I can't see a screwdriver making a nice clean hole through the cords either.

Rather you than me.

But damage to the tread itself is pretty irrelevant. Especially if it's shallower than the grooves that have already been cut into it (which that appears to be). It's just the rubber and will eventually be worn off anyway.

They'll be able to see any damage to the carcasse when they take the tyre off to fit a mushroom bung.

You ever seen them fit a bung by the way? First thing you do is take a course file and ream the hole out bigger to suit the bung. A file doesn't exactly make a clean cut in the carcasse either.

Another option would be to fit a heavy duty tube in it. (yes you can, it'll get hot quicker, that is all).

I have seen a tyre repair. I didn't mean clean as in not rough, I meant clean as in not round. i.e. the basal layer unlikely has a clean hole through it, more likely a rip from the screwdriver going in at an angle and being forced round.

I wouldn't put money on it being repairable or passing a subsequent MOT. I'd also never trust it - too fast a bike, too far over into the part of the tyre that I'm not willing to compromise on.
