Some advice from GP owners please...

Been thinking about one over the last week and decided I want one now.

Do you need to buy the helmet mounts separately or any other special gear that doesn't come with them?

Best place to buy from?

Memory card advice?

Much appreciated.

1. Motorsport edition comes with all the mounts I've needed including helmet mounts
2. I got mine from Amazon, seemed a decent price
3. 32GB Class 10. Komputerbay cards seem a good balance of price vs performance

I got the original Gopro HD motorsports and came with everything needed. Can feel a bit heavy when side mounted on a helmet though so tend to stick it to the bike instead.

Can get it for around £250 ish on https://www.actioncameras.co.uk/ if you use BARON10 as a code and it also comes with an extra battery for free.

Bought this one a while back, was on Amazon for £154.50.

Comes with everything as others have said, definitely heavy on the helmet but hey, its great quality.

You lot have baby necks. Unless the go pro 2 is somewhat heavier

My problem with the first one is if you don't get the mount on your lid perfect you have to use the mounting arms to rotate it and get the angle right, which makes it stick out your head loads and makes everyone notice it and stare at you Razz

Pro tip: Treat the mounts well, they're expensive and i've fucked all of mine up Thumbs Down

PS: Can I have a spare adhesive mount plz Question

PPS: FFS paddy still not had my glove Crying or Very sad

I got mine from amazon for same price as paddy, original one

I’d like a good camera for this kind of thing but why do they all seem to come with the worst mic’s in the world? The sound on playback seems awful.

^ What killa said, I kind of want one too, don't know why though Laughing

Im not keen on the shape of the Go-pro, would be awkward on a helmet.

Though a chest mount would be awesome.

Thumbs Up

£230 with a 32GB card seems like a good deal. Most of the others are around £260/70

I had a Komputerbay 16gb card die on me and take with it a pile of photos from a 3000 mile trip round europe.

Worth spending an extra fiver on branded i feel.

My gopro cams came from amazon as well. best price at the time.

If you stick mount to top of your lid it feels a little better than having it on the side.

I use a Drift Innovation HD170. I think it's much more well suited to using on a bike and is a bit cheaper than a GoPro whilst having much better features. It also uses standard camera mounts rather than bespoke GoPro stuff.

In retrospect I wish I tried the drift after seeing baron von grumbles vids

I don't think the gopro even has the option to plug a boom mic into it, that's the dick part and anything over say 40mph or any amount of wind and all you hear on the recording is PFFFFFFFFFFFSHSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHSETHFISEHFSIHGD%RHGdrhytfjytjtfjtf

The screen is incredibly useful for lining up shots but I think the GoPro gives a slightly better picture maybe. Pretty close though.

I bought a Go Pro HD Hero2 a few weeks ago, fantastic little camera.
It caught my tankslapper on track last week.

Great for stills shots too.

It is possible to fit an external mic. But the standard casing has to be modified to allow this. You can buy a modded case from GoPro but they are, as all things GoPro, very expensive.

I bought my HD Hero2 a number of months ago and used it for one trackday and I filmed a couple of rides out. I then got bored of it and its sat in the cupboard since.

Ask yourself. Do you really need one and why?

If its just to record your daily bimbles then don't bother. The footage very quickly becomes very samey and if you ride as most do then you cannot put the better bits of your commute onto youtube/facebook for fear of prosecution.

My two penneth worth. Wink

Y U NO HAVE STEERING DAMPER?

Footage looks great though! I don't plan doing v-logging or anything (well, I haven't really thought about it) this was just something I've wanted to catch a few videos on.

Question:

Let's say you're with a group on an industrial estate doing some wheelies / hooning around. The police arrive because someone's reported it or maybe they were just checking down there. They notice a Go Pro strapped to one's head...

Can they ask / make you show them footage on it without arresting you?

I got pulled not long ago while cam was on, I stopped and removed helmet before they got out and slipped memory card out and down the back of the seat just in case.

I bought my 2nd Hero2 from a ebay seller called "Digigood"
I recently also bought my 2nd WI-FI backpack from this seller also.

As for SD (SDHC) memory cards, Play.com where doing 32Gb SDHC class 10 memory cards for around £15-£17.
You will need at least a class 4 or higher for the gopro

They are not fantastic at night but there is only so much you can do without adding nightvision to them.

I'm tempted to sell one of my hero2's and get a drift so I have best of both worlds.

I think the Drift is well worth it for ease of use etc. Just a question of how you think the quality compares but both are very good.

Not too fussed about top quality as I downsize a bit for reasonable upload size anyway.

Are they waterproof or do the drift need a case?

What is best to go for?
