Yes, you'll need to SORN it again.
As soon as there's a change of keeper, the current SORN is removed.

Cheers - is there a grace period? I mean, it could be a couple weeks to get the V5 back, and nobody wants to tax before the beginning of a month...
Has anyone here ever been stung for tax (or had a bribe invited ) when buying something that's been off the road for a while?
Realistically, I think I will tax it within a month, but that does depend on the MOT going through. It's going to be in a lockup, so there's no chance of it being seen by the way. |

So I noted, but then had it pointed out that you need to do it just after the DVLA have processed the change of keeper, and how do you know when that happens?
Unless you keep doing it repeatedly, you only really know when you get the new V5C in.
It's utter tosh that SORN is cancelled on a change of keeper, it means that you're technically a scofflaw the moment it happens, and are relying on an informal grace period that's not written into the legislation. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I've just said this on another thread but it may be helpful for you to know my partner didn't SORN his bike when it was off the road in a garage and when he got a letter about it from DVLA he replied saying he had sent the SORN declaration in on [date] and as far as he was concerned his end of the deal was done. They can't prove he didn't and by law he doesn't HAVE to prove he did. I'm just trying to dig out where he found that little nugget of info, cos he never heard from them again, it's CERTAINLY worth a try ____________________ What would you do in life, if you knew you could not fail?

Interpretations Act 1978 Section 7, as tried and tested by sickpup in front of the beak, hip hip huzzah.
However, that's not a precedent, and you may come up against a new bunch of DVLA prosecutors who fancy their chances in front of some different magistrates. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I bought a bike which was "supposedly" SORN'ed when i bought it.
I waited for the V5 to come back and then Sorn'ed it no problem.
They did state that the previous year it hadn't been taxed or sorn'ed and someone from some department would contact me but never did.
It should be fine waiting for the V5 to come back. If in doubt give them a ring. ____________________ Current Bikes: ZX7r 97 (Black Beauty), VFR400 NC24 (The banana)
