Hi all

Ive made this video to show you the noise im getting from my gz marauder(125)
Im pretty sure it needs the valve clearances being done, but just to play it safe does this sound point anywhere from the sound of the tapping(id say tappets if it were a car so im just waiting on my manual so i can do this methodically)

Im not adverse to doing it without the manual, but i really dont wanna screw something up by undoing something i dont need to if anyone knows exactly what this noise is!Smile

It doesnt affect the performance as ive managed to push 62mph out of the bike so far and it wasnt even a hill:)more of a very gentle slope Laughing

But for performance its doing great!,she pulls like a train ,and bar the rattling chainguard in low gears(slowing down) its a really nice ride with almost no vibrations (apparently vibrations were a top pain for these bikes along with the annoying neutral issues)

ignore my two eldest girls at the end(arghhhh)cats and dogs!!

cheers all

Brought some high heat resistant spray paint on ebay the otherday (silver).
I have to say its a really nice silver!
I brought it to do the caliper and afew other places but i was supprised how well it matched the bikes colour so i resprayed the front lower forks too and it looks brand new now!

SIMONIZ VHT TOUGH SILVER SPRAY PAINT 500ml Exhaust Caliper Cooker

one last thing!

When i push the bike out of the garage it is fine turning to the right, but turning to the left its tight! and almost feels like the front brake is engaging or like the wires are too tight (ignition wires/lights etc)
I don't notice anything while riding as it rides well(but then again im not really using the bars to turn much(more leaning etc) and not as tightly turning.

Is it normal as i dont remember any other of my past bikes being alittle stiff in almost full lock.

Sounds like a tapping top end. It's either valve clearances or a leaking exhaust. It's hard to tell as both have the same frequency. Put the handle of a screw driver to your ear and the tip on the engine. That will help you localise the noise. Feeling round the headers will also let you tell if they are blowing at all. Loose valves don't cause a loss of power as the valve still opens and closes, but it's rattling back and forth meaning it gets hit rather than pushed. In some cases it causes damage to the valves themselves. Either get a garage to do it or do it yourself. If you do it yourself check all the contact surfaces for the cams etc for signs of oil stavation.

Has it always sounded like that or just started to do it?. It's the old screw and locknut type tappets on those, they close up not open up over time, when they get quiet is the time to worry Mr. Green . If it has always done it probably just been set to the wider end of the adjustment, if it's just started something might have loosened off. Always worth checking them once a year and adjusting if need be.Easy enough job with it only being a single and pretty easy access.

Yep its always done it and the previous owner leaving it with almost no oil in probably didnt help and it got better once i topped it up and changed the filter.

I did think it was valves etc so atleast im on the right track:)

cheers guys

I've just started noticing a similar noise on my 2006 Marauder titan, I'm going to be doing the "check valve clearances by Mr Haynes" this weekend. I just need to see if I still have feeler gauges or if they have been disappeared by the kids.
