bikes are fail!

How can they be "sports" bikes, when they have no high back riding seat, and have split level single seat instead.

Raised handlebars

No high level ridge on the tank for hanging off

I would love, something like a modern 400 sports, but a true 400 sports, with a proper riding position. Something that is usable on most British tracks and roads and return decent MPG bit have full on sports frame and suspension.

I don't know what to think about it to be honest. It's a beam from heavens for those doing their tests next year though so I guess it's worth something Thinking

I would love a newer VFR400, somewhere between the CBR600RR and 600F styling, EFI sporting 50-60hp in its V4 layout.

Would love it...

Also those aren't ninjas, they are ER6's with shit engines.

Get an SV650, upgrade the suspension and mess about with the riding position?
All the stuff available easily as they're a popular race bike.

For me it shows that manufacturers are going to have to start building bikes with weird and wonderful small capacities again. Which is good.

However, the Ninja 300 is a bored out Ninja 250. Remember the last time Kawasaki bored out a 250 to 300? Oh Yeah! GPz305, what a resounding success!

Also, the Ninja 400 is going to be a ER6F with 150cc's less. Yawn.

Dear bike manufacturers. How about making some tiddler bikes with decent suspension and chassis? Like... say... a modern RGV250? (except four stroke...)

As to the other poster, I am asking for a perfect bike, when it will arrive? I have no idea, but it is the only thing that would tempt me to buying new, when they offer me something I cannot get on a 5 year old machine

The problem is they wouldn't sell, they wouldn't be much cheaper than a 600, the only reason the 80's 250's did so well is the learner laws. Which is why the only 'decent' small capacity sports bikes now are 125s. Just look at the RS250, wasn't a massive seller, the Japs aren't gonna plow millions into building a bike that simple won't sell in the numbers the cheap and cheerful 250's would.

People keep using this term "Sports" bikes, as if it means pointy full fairing with fancy disks.

In fact, I think the only "sports" 125 is the RS125, in fact the Hyo GT125R has more of a sports riding position than CBR125R, etc.

I'm well aware of what constitutes a sports bike, the RS isn't the only proper 125 Sports bike, there is the Mito SPS525 as well.

The biggest issue is that it's R&D that costs money, and it would cost almost the same to design a modern 250 - 400cc sports than it would to do a 600cc to 1000cc sports, yet people will still expect to pay less for the smaller bike, so until something forces this change, the small bikes will always be a compromise.

Would you buy one brand new though? especially considering it will likely be it same price as the 600 version.

The VFR400 actually cost more than the CBR600 new from Honda.

The bike was only made because of the licence laws in Japan at the time.

If they where doing 0% finance then probably, haha. A 400 that looks like a sports 600 would be awesome just because I might be able to afford insurance. Insurance on one of those 3 (VFR, CBR, ZXR) is £600 a year for me...a cbr 600rr or a gixxer SRAD however would be £9000 (basically, the insurers are saying: fuck off are we insuring an 18 year old on a sports bike Thumbs Up ) So yeah, a small engined machine that looks like a sports bike gets my approval Razz

How have you got an insurance quote on one of those currently unavailable bikes? Engine size is not the only factor in insurance you know, you may find an old 750 actually cheaper.

Ah OK Thumbs Up I think you may find that a new bike vs. a mid nineties bike will be radically different to insure.
edit; actually, just learned that they made the zxr until ten years ago... Still, point stands.

The reason I believe modern 400's would be better is because I've heard they are difficult to work on and since they are coming up to 20 years old aren't incredibly reliable and parts can be hard to find. (If I got one it would be my only form of transport, I won't have the luxury of a car, so I need something reliable)

You don't know what music I listen to.

I thought you rode cruisers anyway.

I was generalising about your generation.

Yes at 40 years of age I do ride a cruiser now, but twenty years ago I was riding RGV250's and KR1S's.

You're comparing insurance on older bikes to much newer ones too.
If you're talking a bike that can do 145-150mph with sharp brakes and handling that costs as much as a 600cc bike and is brand new, I suspect the insurance is going to be pretty high.
