RIGHT.........the throttle is sticking open it does close but very slowly, I noticed it the other day whilst out.... i have opened the throttle twist part and lubed up...checked the adjustors and oiled cable and no change....(Tank is off to the side of the bike) .....took the cables out of the twist released slack and checked the butterfly pressed down and it closes happily on its own pulled the open cable and released, it again snapped closed ....so i guess it is the close cable that seems to be causing the issue....but for the life of me i cant suss out how to rectify this problem thanks Mad Mad

Throttle cable is badly routed or corroded internally.

Not much else it can be.

It can also be that the grip has been pushed too close to the switchgear and is resisting the closure. I've seen that before on one of my old bikes.

Could be any of a number of things, but firstly, throttle tubes are not supposed to be lubed on the bar at all, the plastic tube should run on a bone dry bar or they soon gum up again.

Strip the throttle down and remove the tube. Clean the bar with WD40 or similar and then dry it off with a paper towel, then again with a new piece of paper towel to remove any residue. Spray WD40 up inside the tube and push paper towel through it a few times to also remove any grease from that too then wash it out thoroughly with hot water and washing up liquid and dry it well.

Stick the tube on the bar and give it a spin with your fingers - it might drag on the rubber end cap, otherwise it should spin with no effort.

Once you have the throttle tube done, inspect the cables, to make sure they aren't gummed up. Usually they only gum up on the last few inches either end, so disconnect both cables from the carbs and pull the end right through. Clean the cores with WD40 and some rag and make sure you wipe them clean - because the cables are also designed to run dry in the plastic sleeve liner. Then push the cable through and do the same to the other end. Now your cables should slide free and easy with no discernable effort.

Assemble the tube in the housing without the cables and make sure it still spins freely. If it doesn't you'll have to slide it off the end a bit to stop the rubber grip dragging on the end of the bar, as Marjay said above.

Loosen off the throttle adjusters and wind them all the way in. Fit the cables up both ends, then adjust the opening cable for your desired free-play. Remember that you NEED that free-play, if you adjust it all out the throttle will open slightly when you turn full lock - not very nice and an MOT failiure.

Now if the throttle still works freely, adjust the closing cable. If you adjust the closing cable too tight, that will bind the throttle. Wind out the adjuster to take up any slack until you feel the throttle dragging then back it off until you're sure the throttle is working freely at both full locks of the steering.
