Just out of interest really. The amount posted/read, stories told etc, with the amount of regulars on the forum it must trickle down into your day to day life. For example, I told a joke today I read in the joke thread. Also seen videos I would never have seen and have provoked me to think about myself, my life, etc etc.

Sounds lame but the point I (think) I'm making is however different our lives may be, BCF can affect us in very similar ways.

Does any of that make sense? Confused

It's a varied crowd, so links do come from directions I may not have pursued off the top of my own head - an amusing diversion, if it were to disappear I'd find another. There's a handful of people I'd miss, though.

TBH, I don't have many friends outside of BCF.

This is pretty much where I spend my hours before work, during work, after work and weekends.

I've made plenty of decent friends through here and feels far nicer in here than it does in that big bad world. Laughing

For me it just kills time and gives me a place to talk about bikes to people who actually know things about them. I do seem to spend all day on here recently though.

it doesn't affect my life as such, I'm on message boards all day long

Something I've pondered too.
For me I like socialising but talking face to face is hard work (probably got something to do with Aspergers, yet to be confirmed).
Here I get to think before entering a response (hence some of the posts I throw in being a little behind)
I like the biking community generally and would probably have ended up in some group with colours if I didn't object to all the nefarious activities they're involved in.
Living generally is hard work for me, always has been always will be, but even more so since my wife of nearly 20 years turned round 2 years ago and said 'sorry, we're incompatible, cheerio'
This site gives me a get out clause from the real world.

It's the social equivalent of a petri dish; interesting stuff can be observed without getting involved.

I've made some good friends on here, and I've encountered some worthy adversaries. It's also a good place to tap expertise, too, since there's a very wide range of people on here.

Overall, it's a fun diversion, which can help alleviate the crushing tedium of the day-to-day. Plus it's got motorbikes, which is always made of win.

Well for me, it's probably my only, real, contact with other bike people.
In the real world, particularly where I am now, other than a couple of garage dwelling, habitual, polishers there is no one who gets bikes!

I also like the fact that there are a few who like their politics and current affairs, which are subjects that seem to have been relegated below celeb gossip, in real world conversations. Rolling Eyes

I've made some really good friends through this site, I particularly like the Regional section where you can meet up with locals peeps and go to local events, and get involved in the local tag game (which gives fresh ideas of where to ride to next?)

The main downside is coming into contact with some really distasteful, horrible tossers who I honestly wouldn't give the time of day to in the real world...and sometimes I leave the forum wishing they really weren't here to ruin my social time... Rolling Eyes

On the whole though, as Shaggy said...I would miss a few characters should BCF disappear down the plug-hole. Laughing

Gives me time to kill recently, I've been off work following an operation on my elbow, so had a lot of time stuck in the house doing nothing.

Before that, and once I'm back to work, it'll keep me amused with various different jokes and threads, although I will miss warped haha.

There's a lot of stuff on here I wouldn't come across anywhere else, so it can be interesting

It is farkin hilarious. Where else would I have learnt what chavs plods pikeys etc are! Nice to see what everyday brits are like, and see they share many common issues.

It beats our local forum in terms of being more open and diverse, besides the locals I see, so why chat on internet?

One the biking side it is very different as it is road oriented, where as the adv biking community here is much larger. But what do you learn talking to people who think like you, with similar experiences. Actually I think it is one of the best bike forums around. Far less infighting than most forums.

I think BCF/forums can make you more self conscious about your real life. You could just be a guy in a tracksuit going shopping but on BCF you'd be a low life chav who deserves to die. Smile

I quite like people watching in real life and BCF is just like online people watching for me.

Not particularly BCF but I have been trying to cut down the amount of time I spend on the internet, just because it kills a lot of time that I feel I could probably put to better use. The trouble is I don't really have anything better to do so normally just end up watching TV instead. I have been going cycling and running at the weekend so I suppose that is good.

I'm not sure if the bit of my post that you quoted has any relevance to your post Confused
But hey I won't get in the way of a good tale of school kid watching and cider drinking. Smile
