plans to charge for on-street parking at Matlock Bath

got a newsletter from SMC today, with a note at the bottom that Derbyshire County Council are planning on introducing on-street charges for parking on the road. Theres a petition to sign to oppose them, think i've got this right:

to be honest im not sure i see what all the fuss is about with this, im a regular up there and don't see where it would hurt anything for the bikers who are there all day to pay a nominal parking fee, £2-3 for the day is nothing if your there all day like most, yes if they start pushing it at £2-3 an hour then it's an issue

Can you link to the actual proposal for the introduction of any charges? All I can find on the DCC website that is related is this petition.

Seems a bit daft to be signing a petition calling for plans to be abandoned when there is no evidence of what the plans might be or even that the plans exist!

Found a couple of news stories about it that all say pretty much the same thing - it was in the news a month ago and even then the report on the proposal had already been withdrawn.....

So the actual proposal itself, including charges (it looks like they wanted 50p/hour for bikes with cars paying £1.30 for one hour or £4 for up to 4 hours) and the times the charges would apply, isn't available. Confused

How are they gonna do it though...

Put your coins in the machine, get the ticket, stick it on.
What's to stop anyone taking it off the bike again and putting it on theirs, or just pinching it to be awkward.

Unless you put your reg into the machine so any parking wardens can check electronically if you've paid or not, then it's not a theft-proof system, and implementing that kind of system would be a lot of expense and hassle.

if your being sued for money for not paying a parking ticket, any photo or video evidence of you buying one is fully usable in court. it is after all. key evidence. as long as its time and date stamped and has not been tampered with.

Not bothered going down there this year, one the weather has been rub nearly every weekend (yes im one of those part time bikers that gets all fussy about my bike getting wet!) 2 I got fed up with concentrating more on looking out for the plod than enjoying the ride on the run into MB.

I don't think paying a quid or so would be the end of the world, so long as it do sent also bring out PC traffic warden come ticket inspector plodding about slapping tickets and fines on bikers for minor infringements of the law (small plates etc)

have to think that with the economy so shit most councils will be looking for any extra revenue in years to come, don't see why bikes would be exempt.

could be as simple as a barrier and payment if a walled space/car park..or as they do in clever old westminster, make it pay by phone.

no pay shown on system...ticket issued...simple.

( sure it won't come to matlock yet but you can see it coming to some councils over the coming years.
what are bikers going to do...ride and never stop for a brew or chat. )
