Went to the dentist today to have a tooth extracted. They initially told me that the actual extraction would only take a few minutes.

One and a half hours, 5 shots of anaesthetic, a shit load of pushing/pulling/cracking later and its out. Only trouble was she had to remove the next tooth along aswell as it was stopping the 'bad' one from coming out.

Feel like i've been punched in the face now.

Anyway, the worst bit is i forgot to bring my teeth home to put under my pillow for the tooth fairy.

Sounds shoddy to me. They should have done x rays to determine how best to remove the tooth. 2 jabs per tooth is standard. I had 4 out and they took 2 out per session. Each session took about 40 minutes but most of that was waiting for the jabs to kick in. One side hurt like a bitch, it felt like i'd broken my jaw, and judging by the number of bits of bone that came out i might well have done.
The other side was done 2 weeks later and still hurt less than the side that was done 2 weeks ago!

I had a whale of a time during my extraction but I was off my face on valium at the time. He broke the tooth at one point which I thought was funny. I was picking bits of bone out of my gums for ages afterwards (it's like teething again). Seems like they're always messy but to lose an extra tooth is unfortunate.

I kicked up such a fuss that I would only let them remove my 2 teeth whilst I was under general anesthetic.

I closed my eyes one second, woke up a while later in no pain with 2 less teeth.

Perfect. Smile

most of my teeth are broken or rotting
I have no nerves left in the remaining teeth, last extraction I had the anaesthetic had no effect
but I didn't have any pain though I could feel the tooth coming out
quite a "Hollow" feeling
though quite a few joints before the procedure might explain the lack of pain Embarassed

After they take the tooth out, they'll put a small bag in the hole.

Take this out before attempting to eat your lunch. Wondering what you're chewing along with the bite of your sandwich is not a nice feeling. Laughing

Other than that, being put to sleep for it is just bliss. You don't feel anything, know of anything happening or wake up in pain. You still have a numb mouth but that's to be expected.

I don't even have gaps where my teeth were removed now, all my teeth moved down thanks to the wisdom teeth growing. Smile

Had a baby tooth forcefully extracted when I was younger that was painful enough wasn't told I was having it done, when it was done it was with no painkillers and I was only 5 at the time.

Never liked dentists since.

Slipped up there.

As the dentist was about to start, you ought to have reached down, grabbed him by the bollocks, and said.

"Now we're not going to hurt each other today, are we?"

Well, i'm a bit sore today...

Interestingly, the tooth that wasn't supposed to come out was a baby tooth - according to the xray the adult tooth is present underneath, but they don't know if it will make an appearance or not.

Root canals shouldn't be painful - I had one about this time last year in one of my front and centre teeth and it was a walk in the park. Numbing injection smarted a bit mind:

Dr Nick from The Simpsons style dentist: "The injection hurts because it's going into your sinuses."*

Me: "FUUUUUUUUUU......dribble, dribble, GAH!"

Five seconds of discomfort was infinitely preferable to the alternative mind...

* Don't know whether this is physically possible or whether he's batshit loco. He's done a pretty good job over the years though.

I'm not going back to my dentist again, after coming round from the local anesthetic, I found foot prints in the arm rests.

Defo the most painful thing I've had... and it took x3 1 hour appointments just for 1 tooth! Still doesn't compare to the pain I had before though, used to feel like someone had cut the top of the tooth off and poured salt in it. Been a few months now and all is well so it was worth it really.

Walk in the park if the anaesthetic is in OK. If they have to numb the inside of the gum, the injection smarts, but it's rare that they have to do that.

The only painful bit is the bill afterwards.
