Hey guys, I'm in a bit of confusion and would like to know what your opinion on two bikes are.

I've been very fortunate and have been offered one of two bikes for sale for a pretty nice discount. Thing is I'm not sure which one I should go for, so I figured I'd ask you guys. =P

The two bikes in question are the Honda VFR800 (2001) and a Kawasaki ZX6R (2002)

Both of these bikes are in good condition and don't have many miles on them, in fact the Kawasaki only has about 100. O.O

I should also let you know that one of these bikes will be my first, so obviously I don't have any experience as of yet. That considered I figured the best option would be the Kawasaki, although I'm not too sure.

Thanks a lot guys and gals. =)

Personal choice ZX6 - but having never rode either - its just on looks.

Perhaps go and sit and test ride both and buy the one YOU like and not the one the internet likes.

Only 100 miles on a ten year old bike?! Rings alarm bells, it may have been a track bike, in which case the speedo would have been disconnected.

I do not believe for a second that zx6r has only 100 miles on it legitimately....

The ZX6R was bought brand new, but he never really rode it (I know the guy quite well so he's not just some randomer selling bikes). He says that it's just been sitting around not being used, but still maintained.

He's a collector of sorts and he never really got on with it much, so it's not really been used. He's not a track guy though, that's for sure, so I know it's not been used for that. I can understand though why it is rather strange to have such a low mileage.

Also what I'm kind of asking is not just what bike is better, but which one would be the better candidate for a first bike?

Fair, enough. They're both solid bikes mate. Personally I prefer the ninja but ride both and see which one suits you better, you're the one who will have to live with it.

It's quite a common theme here. Someone comes on asking about a bike that sounds too good to be true, when someone points this out to them, the OP always knows the seller quite well. I wonder how many actually do.

Hehe, yeah I can understand that. However, I'm no expert at bikes, but if I met some guy selling a bike that's ~10 years old and only has around 100 miles on it, I'd pick up that something could potentially be wrong and wouldn't be interested in either of them.

(I've known the guy about 15 years, my dads old work mate if you're curious =P)

Looks like the ZX has got wavy discs.

I'd be asking why he felt the need to change the discs if he's only done 100 miles on it.

And out of the two, VFR all day long.

If the 100 miles is legit, and can be proved with MOT's etc. Buy it for an investment, or PM me with his number and I'll buy it tomorrow.

As it probably can't be verified, then go with how you feel.

That's the thing, I'm in a bit of a bind. I personally kinda like the VFR a bit more than the ZX6R, but he's offered more money for the VFR and I thought maybe it would be best to shoot for the ZX mainly because it might be a better bike to start up on.

I obviously can't give these bikes a go, seeing as I don't have any exp on bikes, so I thought I'd seek your opinions on what would be potentially better and for the fact it'll be a newbies bike.

I don't know anything about these bikes so for all I know one of them could be notorious for being, well, crap. So I thought it would be best to ask around. =P

If its literally been stood for 10 years I wouldn't expect it to be in ready to ride condition. Chances are it'll need more than a few things doing as a result of not being used all that time.

Lol 100 miles on 10 year old bike.

I personally would go for the Honda, don't like the ZX6R. The ZX7R however...Drooling

The VFR will be an easier bike to ride IMO. More comfy, still quick as buggery, probably better fuel consumption, and, well it's a Honda. The Kwak's a good bike, but out of the two I'd go for the VFR. I was looking at some myself before I got the GSX-R, and couldn't find a decent one for less than around £2K, out of interest what's he asking?

I'd probably end up getting the VFR in any case. To be honest the first time I saw it I kinda fell in love with it. He's offering me £750 for that. £650 for the ZX6R.

Who TF sells a VFR800 for £750? I'd be expecting to pay more than he's asking for both bikes combined unless it was shagged.

Are you sure his name's not Mr Fritzl and it's not some ploy to lure you to his basement? Razz

Something smells of BS to be honest.

The money your being asked for both of those bikes put together is less than you'd normally pay for a decent nick VFR.
