I know another thread on it Rolling Eyes but was just wondering if there are any out there which dont muffle sound, but just cancel out the harmful frequencies.
Like the kind of earplugs you might wear to a concert so you can still clearly hear the music but wont damage your hearing?
Ive tried 2 different types, one is the memory foam ones you roll with your fingers and put in, and the others are those ribbed type ones with little ridges on them made of rubber, kind of xmas tree shaped.
Both just made everything very quiet, and tbh i'd rather not wear them than not hear whats around me.

Unlikely, if you're going to plug your ears, it's going to effect all sound. Also to stop the wind noise and such they're gonna have to be a snug fit.

I think ill just put my windjammer back on, seems like the only option to reduce volume of sound without muffling the fuck out of it

as usual i cant recommend these enough..

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-Pair-Baratec-Rubber-Ear-Plugs-23db-Packed-Individually-Defenders-Defence-New-/130609770907?pt=UK_BOI_ProtectiveGear_RL&hash=item1e68f2f19b

for the price and indeed for any price imo they are brilliant.

of course general noise is reduced but they cut out wind roar brilliantly and i can still chat to my mates at the lights, hear cars, etc..

i found my in ear headphones to be AWFUL at keeping wind roar out. apart from that they cut out every other noise though. felt horrible. dont like feeling disconnected from the world like that when im on the bike.

^^^Those are the other type ive tried which again blocked out all sound and just made it muffled to the point of dangerousness.

im using these:

https://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?Track=B1809001

Use them in clubs primarily but find they work well out on the bike Smile

You could also try these as well

https://www.minerva-hearingprotection.co.uk/dj-earplugs.html

both are expensive but well worth it in my opinion Smile

Ive got an idea, ill trim the ones i have down so they look like those music ones, they look the same except mine have a couple of extra ridges on them, ill jsut cut them off and they will look identical to the expensive ones, probably made of the same stuff as well.

You don't need to hear when you are driving, it simply isn't necessary. If you feel you need to hear then you need to focus on improving your visual observations, not avoid wearing ear plugs. You can't select frequencies to cut out as you need to block out all audible frequencies.

Ear plugs are good, but if you can find a way to put some more foam in the helmet to block out wind from reaching the plugs then all the better. Wind noise is really, really fatiguing, as well as causing hearing damage.

+1; it's very rare that you hear something that you need to pay attention to that you haven't already seen. And at higher speeds, you can't hear anything much anyway - I remember thinking the horn on my bike was broken on the motorway once, when it turned out I was just travelling too fast (=> noise) to hear it.

But it takes a little getting used to. First few times I wore earplugs, I stalled my bike occasionally pulling away from traffic as I couldn't gauge the revs as easily. But you get used to it.

I got a louder exhaust. Very Happy

I wear earplugs everytime i ride. I actually find it really relaxing with all the background/wind noise removed. It also means i can ride all day, whereas before i started using them i would always be tired after a couple of hours.

My brother got me a set of in-helmet speakers at christmas, but i tried them and i couldnt hear anything above 30mph with my earplugs in, and its on the motorway i really want music. Its annoying not being able to hear anything when you want to talk to your mates at lights as well. So I am going to try a set of the ones recommended by supZ and see if they're a good compromise.

The Alpine Motosafe earplugs arrived yesterday and were tried today @ silly speeds on a windy motorway.

Haven't got anything to compare them to, except not using them, but they significantly reduced the wind noise along with the exhaust noise.

I could still hear the engine, it was much clearer and "nicer" sounding.

My ears arent ringing and I didnt feel blind or off balanced when using them. Thumbs Up

Worth the £20? Dunno, nothing to test them against
Am i happy with my purchase? Yeppers.

A vote for the Alpine's from me too.
I've had a pair of (MotoGP Embarassed ) rebranded Alpines for quite a while, and found them to be about the best I've tried so far.
I usually only use them on longer trips, and extended motorway runs, but they have a biiig Thumbs Up from me

I have been using these

https://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/quies-silicone-ear-plugs_1_178714.html

after a long run to Campbeltown left my right ear aching. They can be molded into any shape which changes the amount of sound they block
from just covering the outer ear to actually entering the ear canal. Being silicone they also dont pick up wax, dirt or moisture.

I did find i needed to adjust them deeper when on my mates ZZR as it was a damn sight louder than my ER6.
