My little facebook rant to start things off:

Dear Mr. Council Man... you selfish ignorant prick,

You're clearly not a motorcyclist are you... for that matter I don't even think you drive at all. Have you ridden a motorcycle on loose gravel? would you like to? I will give you my bike to ride down the 15% hill in Great Paxton on the LOOSE GRAVEL that your workers are currently laying, as well as everywhere else in the county it seems. It's like riding on ice, no... it's worse than that.. it's a fucking disaster waiting to happen. Thanks to you, I have a stone chipped car and a bike I can no longer use because you've quite literally spread gravel over every road I use to get to work.

Faithfully,

A pissed off motorcyclist, driver, and tax payer.

I am so angry, literally every road around where I live is now gravel! all the good roads I frequent for a hoon are now death traps, all to save them a bit of money over proper tarmac, which pretty much leaves these roads closed to any motorcyclist who wants to get somewhere without dying.

</rant>

My local council has done this.
Some roads are ok. Straight, a bit of gravel, mostly laid properly.

Some roads are literally fucked. I'm talking, big piles of gravel around tyre marks. Centimetres deep.

If that was on a corner you would basically have to paddle the bike around.

They're in the process of fucking up...errr...resurfacing the road that links my village to the rest of the world. It's been left stripped of a surface for a few days now (complete with bonus raised-iron-work-hazards) - no sign of any workmen or equipment since - although I'm sure it won't be long for the glorious gravelly surface to be applied.

If they've skimmed it then they'll be putting down some actual tarmac

I'd put money on it. Skimmed road, lumps, raised drains and no sign of workers for a week means tarmac.
After the effort of taking off some almost usable road surface they need to take a week off in preparation of the assault on their minds of actually laying a new top layer of tarmac.

Sort of on subject.
They had to replace the surface of the 1/2 mile dual carriageway not far from the village I live in.
Now, rather than tear it up and slap a new layer on just like we expect they go the eco route which involves 10x as much money and weeks of delays.

They took over a field next to the road. Laid a surface, put up multi-story cabins/offices and loads of machinery.

Took off some of the layer, moved it to the field where it was put through the machinery, cleaned up and retarred ready for relaying to the road and on it went for about 6 weeks.

They then spent 2 weeks pulling up the field and restoring it to it's previous condition.

I'm still, 2 years on wondering how it was of eco benefit.

The gravel today had just been laid, i.e. not even had enough cars to wear tyre tracks into it Sad

No fun.

Meh laid sand all over the road by the roadworks near me no traction on that when going over it.

The gritters were also out last night and today spraying gravel and looks like they have dumped a pile of it at the end of the street. Just need more care going over it.

Lozzypop got pulled for doing 20mph on a gravelled road.

they asked why she was going so slow and she then pointed out to the old bill the 10mph gravel signs. Rolling Eyes

I friggin love it. Second gear, pop the clutch with max revvs, see how long you can hold the burnout for. Did mine for like 30 meters ! Laughing being brought up on offroad bikes it means it just makes me lol.

What is savage though is when its a 60mph road, you're blasting a good 80mph and round a corner, is suddenly the aforementioned gravel road. That can be a bit problematic. Laughing

What annoys me more is the loose gravel that flicks up and chips your paintwork on the bike you've JUST bought.

Cunts.

Ahem... It was 30mph.

Even better is the fact that I work stupid shift patterns and the councils have "gone green" and switch off street lighting between villages after midnight. Couple this with gravelled roads and KNOWN issues with animals straying onto the roads, gives a huge insight to the intellectual capability of the decision-makers at the council.

If you get wiped out by a sheep in the lane, that reduces your Carbon footprint to zero. Some green wallah in the council gets extra points for saving the Earth and goes to their macrame lessons that bit more satisfied.

Dear Peasant,

You just wait for the EUSSR 7th "driving you'll all be fucking pedalling lol" directive. You'll be lucky if you're paying ten times the road tax for something that makes a C90 look like 'Busa.

Mr Council Man (with all the power)
