Friend of mine is looking for a new car.

The ideas he has are...

A V8 Vantage

https://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o22/fv53wkr/ASton.jpg

Example - https://pistonheads.com/sales/4191729.htm

A Nissan GTR

https://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o22/fv53wkr/GTR.jpg

Example - https://pistonheads.com/sales/4199930.htm

A Porsche 997 with "Aerokit" (the body from an RS I think)

https://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o22/fv53wkr/Porsche.jpg

Example - https://pistonheads.com/sales/4184044.htm

Any thoughts or suggestions what else he should get?

I steered away from the V8 Vantage, why go for a faggot spec Aston.

GTR is pretty beastly, had an hour long test drive and I was impressed, but it felt typical Japanese handling wise and internal styling. Nismo and ASM do some sterling work... enough to wipe a Veyron off the planet Wink

Not had any experience in a Porsche other than a Boxster S, felt no different to a nice Mercedes.

What is the price range, seems like £50k~ Laughing

What's a faggot spec Aston?! Laughing DB9s are the same money but not sure the styling is as good, no need for it to be as big either.

What's typical Jap handling? Interior doesn't seem too bad!

Think he's wanting to spend up to £40k or so.

Aston. Mostly for looks and bragging rights. For example:

"I've got a nissan"

OR

"I've got a aston"

I personally like saying;

"I've got a juaaaaaaaaag"

M6 deosn't do it for him I don't think - suggested it already.

Lambo + R8 over budget.

Maybe Maserati, I'll tell him to look. Not sure Ferrari - it would be a daily drive!

Out of those it has to be the Porsche. Aston is too worrying in terms of mechanical reliability and build, Nissan is too 'new money' and apparently pretty dull to drive at normal speeds.

The Porsche is the one I'd have.

Another vote for the porsche, but without the super gay bodykit.

Carrera 2S would be my choice of Porka.

Depends on what he's after from it, really. The types of car he's interested in give a flavour, but what does he really want to achieve? You're saying it's an every day car but presumably not hampered too much by reliability, economy or overall running costs?

From the list of cars given and just making assumptions - others to consider:

Jag XKR
Corvette Z06
NSX-R
Merc AMG of any description with the 6.3
If he's not worried about it being a coupe, M5

Lower down the food chain but still great drives, soundtracks and plenty useable:
Porsche Cayman
BMW Z4M

That is pretty much it, I wouldn't say dull, just its not a fantastic >50mph car.

Open roads/country lanes its a charm, but when I was driving around town/from dealers/through estates, it felt slightly heavier on the steering, far far less input was needed from anywhere... just as MarJay says, fairly dull.

With regards to the Aston, I was looking at a V8 Vantage which had been wrapped in white vinyl. There is a thread on here about it somewhere Laughing but in essence it was the baby Aston, looks good, but why buy the bottom end of the high market cars. You could probably (if you hunted enough and found someone who wanted a sale) find a nice Aston Thumbs Up

A Porsche does sound nice but my experience of them is VERY little and of the shite model Laughing

I've had the Aston and the Porsche and I would say that it really comes down to personal preference. It's really down to him, not you, nor the people of a forum he doesn't know about. Performance wise, they were both fantastic cars, but I found the aston was the one that REALLY turned heads and that really was I ended up getting rid of it for an '03 Citroen Picasso.

I've never understood people's preocupation with cars - all that happens is they get scratched and you sell them for considerably less than you bought them for.

Surely a van and an Ariel Atom would be the perfect combo?

Ive always wanted a Porsche so im bias.

But speed wise it will be the GTR.

But its always gonna be a Nissan, and outright speed means less to me these days.

Aston might look flashy, but GTR says 'boy racer got rich', Porsche says 'I'm pre-op, but only for a few more weeks!'

Aston is the proper car.

Aston is likely to be considered a Wag's car, or at least a wanna-be Norwich City footballer's choice of status car.

See it's easy to make these sorts of things up isn't it Wink

I buy the cars I buy based on what I want from it, and how I feel driving it - not what others might think of me / my decision.

Quite, which makes this thread pointless, which it is.

If I was making the choice, I'd go for the Aston. But I'd generally pick an Aston over most silly money cars. Love 'em.

But you'd still feel like a woman and a fag driving the Porsche or GTR, right? Razz

Out of those, the nissan, out of cars that are 40 ish k? RS6 Avant.

Would I ever spend 40k on a car? Fuck no. £10k will get you a V10 TDI Phaeton for tooling around in, then chuck the rest at something fun you can get your hands dirty on (restoring an xjs V12 maybe).
