Judges don't like lies in sworn statements and often throw the book at people for doing so. e.g 1 year for GBH, 2 years for conspiring to lie to the court.
IMO police officers making things up / clearly lieing is the lowest of the low and they should be made an example of with extra harsh sentences. We all make mistakes and they are forgiveable provided they are honest, but outright lies to fuck someone over coming from someone paid and trusted to protect people should result in: Dismissal, Zero Pension / health care, big fat sentence.
Sure it'd put a few bad eggs in prison but it'd go a long way to restore the conduct of police officers and the trust people have in them.

Policing is not an exact science.

Policemen have to routinely detain innocent people who they suspect to be guilty of a crime.

To minimise the chance of harm to themselves, some officers routinely use excessive force.

American officers should be told to put the safety on before pistol whipping suspects.

It's only the proliferation of cctv and phone cameras that is causing more of this stuff to come to light.

The curious thing is that rather than this exposure putting a stop to it, the system stands by it's thugs right to use whatever force they deem necessary.

I'm sure they would try to prosecute the people capturing the evidence if they could.

Maybe there will become a new offence of taking pictures of an officer while on duty, on some terrorism law.
