 |
|
As a few people know im planning on putting my KMX200 back together and i want to run it with 17" wheels, and road tyres. I know this won't technically make it a proper supermoto, and it's still a 25year old trail bike with sticky tyres at the end of the day.
Imagine a DT125X and call it whatever you will, supermoto, funmoto, wannabe pretender, etc, but that's what i want to build.
Now do i go for a set of proper style SM wheels with new rims laced up to my std hubs, and then obviously change the suspension and brakes/uprate where required to take advantage of grippy tyres and no need to go off road at all?
Or can i do this: https://citroen-compactes.forumsclub.com/t440-le-kmx-200-cc-du-ch-gail
And still get a decent result? All im really asking is what are the advantages/disadvantages to adapting a set of cast alloy road bike 17" wheels to fit my bike?
I know looks wise a proper supermoto look with spoked rims is vastly superior, but im more interested in how the bike will ride than how it looks, and if road bike wheels will make it better or worse?
Lastly what tyre sizes does the Honda NSR125R use, and are they more than adequate for 35bhp? I know a fatter rear wheel will look better, but there is much cheapness in going the cast wheel route by comparison.
And some of the early supermoto steet bikes/Street moto's like the Gilera Nordwest, Freestyle and Cagiva Supercity all use cast wheels, and i think they look pretty cool! |

Spoked wheels are cooler
Talon hubs and Excel rims are favourites.
I have them on mine and run corsa 3 on the rear and bt021 on the rear currently. Great little toy
You can get them laced to your hubs, get them sent away and come back all good and ready to go.
The only advantage to non spoked is the fact you can have tubeless, I'm running tubes in mine |

My 690 has spokes and is tubeless I prefer spokes any day, but it's personal preference, plus with spokes it'll keep the bike flexible should you want to go green laning or jump some stairs or whatever you're into. ____________________ KTM 990 SMT & Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM |
