Almost certainly not, except for a very short while (minutes). How long has it been flat?

Happened my 99' SRAD.

In the end I jumped it off my dad's jag. Left it idling for about half hour. Every time I used it after that, up until selling, started a treat.

A car charger will be fine. Just don't leave it on charge overnight. Keep an eye on the charge level and as soon as it drops to near zero you should be good to go Thumbs Up

Car chargers are NOT ok to use with many bike batteries. You can cause serious damage or even an explosion. I've had batteries which had the sides bulging outwards from over-charging.
Bike chargers limit the charging current to a couple of amps, some car chargers have this feature but many don't. If you have a trickle charger and a very flat battery, sometimes the trickle charger won't start charging and this is when a quick blast on a car charger will bring the voltage up enough so the trickle charger will start working. Otherwise, you're risking damage to the battery.

Yes they are perfectly OK to use. Read what I actually said. I've used a standard car charger for years and as long as you keep an eye on the charge level you'll be fine. What do you think people did before Optimates and the like came on the market? Rolling Eyes

used a car charger for years ,but you have to put a car fog /stop /side light bulb in series between the negative clips ,then onto the batt. this gives you about a 1/2 amp going into the battery

some i know charger a runner with a car charger, cooked the battery, reg/rec and alternator.

so if you are going to use a car charger remove the battery from the bike first

Absolutely! A basic car charger isn't designed to charge a battery while still connected. Thumbs Up

forgot to add that to my reply ,i always disconnect the batt whilst charging, had no probs using car charger,as long as you reduce the amps ,with a test or inspection light connected in series between batt and charger

Seeing as chargers for bikes are very affordable and bike batteries will always need charging I'd get the proper tool for the job.
Makes sense in the long run.

After 4yrs my £9 wallwart is still working fine. (Aldi/Lidl)
