Riding from Leek to Derby on the A523, i was on a long straight road (cant find exact area on google maps), with a car infront of me with a trailer going 45mph.
I assumed it was a 60mph road, as there was no reason why it shouldnt be, so i overtake him, im at approx 73mph when i realize there is a fixed speed camera a few meters ahead (facing away from me, therefore it will get the reg plate) about 1/3rd the way down the marked lines i look at the speedo while braking and im at an indicated 65mph, didnt notice the camera flash but then i wasnt really looking out for it.
About 40 meters further down the road there are 50mph signs, so im not sure if the camera is a 50mph or 60mph cam.

Assuming it was a 50mph camera, an indicated 65ish, so probably around 61mph, is it the usual 60 beans and 3 points?

Not gonna start crying saying the camera shouldnt be there etc, i wanted to get home in good time so i overtook the guy infront, so its my fault.
Thanks

Find out what type of fixed camera it is.

https://www.ukspeedcameras.co.uk/index1.htm

Was it dark/low light? if dark you normally spot a flash reflecting off your left wing mirror I'd thought. When I set one off last year, it was a massive lightning flash almost, it was a yellow gatso one so it ran out of film luckily for me.

Good luck!

Prob 3-6 points and a fine. They may give you more but maybe try opting for the grovelling approach infront of the courts?

Go back with a tyre and some petrol before they take the film out.

I can't be the only that finds the idea of being done for speeding on a Virago utterly hilarious, can I?
Either way, you'll know inside of a fortnight. More to the point, speedometers always over-read, and scameras have got a certain amount of leeway before they're triggered. Chances are that you'll be fine.

Where the 50 signs big and both side of the road? If so that was a change in speed limit (gateway signs) so it may be that the limit was 60 before that (may as well have been 30 though). If it was a small one only on your side, it was a repeater sign (ie limit was 50 all along).

It is £60 and 3 points or maybe you get offered a speed awareness course for £80 and no points.

Good luck

I have no plans to buy a speed camera. So I most likely won't buy a speed camera. Job done. Next thread.

3 points if it was a 50. If he is lucky.

I just got stung for 97 in a 70, but they had said if the car in front of them had moved, they would have got me at an estimated 107mph. Laughing Offered me court or 3 points and £60 fine.

Duh, I'm taking the points.

If you overtook the car on the lines then chances are the speed camera wont have been able to get an accurate reading of your speed and thus wont have activated.

You'll be fine. My spider sense says so.
I think I am god to the spiders in my house, every day my bike is covered in them with webs from the walls to it, and the other day riding home from work a spider was in my lid.
Then I saved a rabbit from getting smushed.

I am, the spiderman.

The A523/A52 Leek to Ashbourne once you're out of the 30 bit in Leek is 50 for the whole length apart from maybe? the top bit of Swinscoe Bank on the edge of Ashbourne, been that way for years too many drivers and riders were getting killed when it was NSL. They're all Gatso cameras, sounds like you had just left Waterhouses as there's a couple on the straights afterwards most of the others are in the villages you pass through.

probs been done then, and regarding it being a Virago, they are surprisingly nippy for a cruiser, can overtake cars easily, will shoot up from 50 to 75 in no time

You may get lucky. I got caught a couple of months ago (1st time in over 20 years) going 36 in a 30. I got to attend a speed awareness course at £83 instead of the £60 fine + 3 points. No need to declare it on the insurance.

One of the things I was told on the course is that the majority of the cameras are now digital - so no chance the film had run out if this one was one of those.

Good luck, Rob.

All I can say that, when I was in my friends car and got flashed by speed camera, it flashes twice and it is quite noticable.
