Hey All, I've my Mod 1 test on the 11th, Really looking forward to getting it done and out the way, Slightly concerned that im gonna put me dam foot down through the slalom and maybe U-turn, (was always an issue on the CBT lol! 8O ) however my confidence is at a all time high after having one full trial run at it..

I know i have nothing to worry about but its a test and you do worry,, i just see me getting in the gate parking the Kawasaki 650cc er-6n (or whatever it is) in the coned box area, walking the baby to the other box.. and now for the slalom, :P Creep out of the starting gate and off i go.. nice steady pace.. through the 1st 2 cones no worries.. err!!! ok.. bit quick, next gate,, oh crap.. err err wobble wobble.. foot down.. test Broken and all over.. thats in my head darn it.., need some :karma: to cleer my concionce.

Ahh who am i kidding.. its easy I've already done it and now i have to be officially marked on it.. Bring it on Tuesday here i come. :D

Good luck. I would suggest getting yourself down to a carpark when its quiet and practicing until you can do it blindfolded on one leg with your hands tied behind your back.*

I do not endorse this kind of riding and take no responsibility for any loss, damage or death that may occur trying said actions.

Sounds like Fun.. but not the same on my 125..
Bought the Honda CBF 125cc Back in February after passing my CBT in January.. Rode and rode since all the time as and when i can, accumulated some 3600Miles since February 11th, gaining confidence as i progressed, my right hand turns got more and more comfortable, (hated them to commence) after some really dodgy roundabouts.. now its like speedway, faster the better, adrenalin rush, man has my confidence soared, love the open windy roads now yet on them un-familiar roads, the bends do slow me down to a safer than safe speed, always coming out of them with the ! above my head,, WTF could have gone much faster, lol.. Forgot where i wsa heading with this reply.. so Halt.. Very Happy

'Nothing to fear but fear itself' Wink

If you've got the bike at a steady speed then there's no need for the foot to move off the peg, clutch control is king for Mod 1. As Pinky suggested, maybe some time in a car park beforehand would be time well spent. If you've done a test run with no problems then get into the mindset that you have done it all before, put the nerves to one side & smash it. Thumbs Up

Thumbs Up thats the idea.. That was the mindset i had on my bus test back in June.. till the day.. Leading upto +June 2nd, Ahh wth its just a test, a Driving test man i can already Drive, just gotta show some unknown geezer i can do it safely with the believe some 72 passengers maybe onboard. . Easy, no sweat, Then the day came and i was a Quivering wreck lol..

I know for mod 1 i CAN do it.. its just the fact that ever since i passed my CBT, i've practiced the U-Turn in the road, umpteen times with a handful of success rates this could equate to 1% in success to the actual attempts lol.. but in the TEST Ground there is no apex like the road and i pissed it first time every time i tried.. Helped with confidence and Added a smile to my face making me believe i CAN do it, But its in the back of my head that its a "possability" it "MAY"happen in the test, GOD DAM THAT BAD KARMA..

The U turn isn't too bad, there's plenty of space allocated for it. Do you focus on the kerb/white lines when you do a U turn? If so DONT, where you look is where you'll go. Think of it as 'target fixation', don't be looking at lines and cones, be looking where you want the bike to go and your head & body will do the rest. So on the U turn, you're asked by the examiner to pull away and perform a U turn in 'road conditions'. So do the necessary observations, move forward (check shoulder again) & have that clutch under control. Slow & steady, it's not a speed or timed thing. Turn you head so you're facing where you want to go & not be looking down at the white lines. Thumbs Up

Yeah Dung, thats what i do. learnt VERY quickly (on CBT) that looking where ya wanna go instead of what you think your gonna hit, is the way forward, the ONLY way forward. lol (no pun intended, lol)

Same on the slalom and figure of 8, turn my head about 45 degrees, wait to see the middle of the blue cones, and straight through i go, once through 45 degrees with the head (ROUGHLY) and around and through easy as eating cake.

Its just a fear i have as its always been the one thing i STRUGGLE with.. FAILED at no matter how many times i give it a wirl.. but ive done it every attempt in the Garrats green test facility easily, so time to get rid of them gretching hooliganic gremlins fry them with electricity and kick there fear tramping looney tunes out of my head once and for all. Idea (best descriptive ive came up with for a polite posting) I Can do this and i WILL do this..

Yaigi, Yey man.. Brothers on wheels.. WE will do this Ey!"! Very Happy Best of luck to US Smile

Sounds like you're ready mentally chap, it's all good. Remember on the figure 8 part you can use as much space as you like on the turns, so rather than keeping it really tight, give yourself plenty of space to do the figure 8 turns............& don't worry about counting them, the examiner will wave at you when you've done 2 full turns. Thumbs Up

Best of luck to you too Yaigi. Thumbs Up

And Micras.

Try to visualise yourself acing it. There's loads of room for all of the manoeuvres, you'll be surprised how easy it is after you've passed.

On the u-turn in particular, rear obs, feet up, move off and then turn. Get a little bit of speed up, don't try and start the turn from a standing start. Same with the slow ride, you can start off firmly and then slow down (says a newsletter to ATBs), don't risk a wobble by trying to creep away at slow walking pace.

And there's far more yard than there is cones. Look at the gaps, not the cones and you won't hit them.

Anyone can dab a foot down, but there's no shame in doing so, and it's more likely that you won't. The pass rate is nudging 70% now. Deep breath, obs, pass. Thumbs Up

thanks roger, inspirational reply, almost read acing it as Aching.. lol..

but your right.. i dont need to worry cause ive already done it.. so nothing to worry but fear itself as Dung says.. though i would rather NOT put a foot down.. my instructor told me im putting my foot down cause im going too slow.. hell never put a foot down again after he said that.. speed is not my fear. , SLOW is my fear..

Glad to hear that i COULD gun a start for the walking pace.. (figurativly speaking) i always seam to start that quite quick and was worried it may be to quick a start then slowed down to a lovely pace.. though doing that on a 650cc is much easier than on my 125cc dam wheels just to thin handle bar wobble is aweful.. lol

ANDY Good luck on Tuesday with the rest of us..

Bad luck mate! A little easier on the back brake next time! Its meant to be 70% on the front, 30% on the back (I think?) so just ease it on. Smile

Good luck for next time mate!

Yeah im pretty p'eed at myself.. examiner. says no back brake as the front brake makes me lean onto it.. so predominatntly 100% front,., and momentum on back.. However instructor says 90% Front, 10% back but certainly no more than 70/30 ration.. Think i'll try examiners method next time so long as im covering it.. Very Happy
Cheers though mate.. and i WILL be going again and again till i get PASS this has not tarnished my determination to Pass the Big boys toys.. Very Happy lol

A bit of advice I got last week from an instructor - for the test only..!

Move your foot in order to give the impression you are applying the back brake, but use the front brake only. Again just for the test! At 31 and a bit mph it'll do the job and get you through.

I kept messing up the stop on a Kawasaki 650 and skidding the back - in fact I ended up on my 125 for the mod 1, but love it so what the heck. The throttle just stuck to my hand whilst practising the stop on the 650, the instructor got scared and suggested the 125 route since the tests were booked.

- I see your new reply so forgive any reiteration of what you said there!
