My girlfriends compaq just died, something with overheating and the fan dying.

She needs a new one, budget is up to 500. It's mainly for university work, watching films, travelling etc. Occasional light gaming (the sims or similar)

Would rather not have another compaq, and battery life is important.

Cheers

Dell Inspiron range. Mine is on 24/7 and been trouble free for two years. I did keep the battery plugged in all that time so that is buggured now but that would be the same for any laptop.

I got my flatmate a bargain acer from amazon warehouse deals, brand new laptop with minor box damage at about 80 quid less than cheapest retail price I could find (about £100 cheaper than the amazon usual price)

I had a terrible time with these guys. Bought a refurb from them - they had used "warranty void if removed" stickers to cover holes in the case where it had been dropped.

The missus had a Dell inspiron. Piece of shit tbh and I'l never buy another. Constantly over heating and shutting down without external fans. Keyboard died after 2 years. (It was mainly used with a mouse). Disc drive stopped working after several months.

I love my Acer. My brother loves his and my dad loves his.
