tv wall brackets

so i got pestered into hanging the tv on the wall, so got a wall bracket. no twist just the tilt feature on it.

anyway, spirit level out, all nice and level, marked up, checked again, drilled the holes...drill bit slipped the most minute amount which has resulted in a very slight slant to the tv.

fix? the hook parts that bolt to the tv have are made up of 2 hooks per side with a flat peice between the 2. like a square U. drill small hole, tap to M4 thread, insert M4 bolt and adjust to make perfectly level.

why the heck these tv mounts dont come with that as a standard i dont know. i mean okay, you can get a certain amount of level adjustment from the bracket on the wall unles the bolt holes are a very snug fit around the thread of the bolt but still, you'd think some genius would have patented it and made a butt load of cash by now. unless thats why they dont include it but still.

anyways, tv hung on wall looking nice freeing up some floor space. cant complain.

I had an issue hanging my TV on the wall. I measured it up. Drilled the holes and it was all level. Put the TV on it and it was as wonky as a 3 legged donkey. Turned out the back of the bracket had C shaped runners where you could alter the tilt. If they are not straight then the TV isnt. As a result the thing is now fixed and looks straight. When I say straight I mean as straight as its going to get and still looks kind of off because the walls are not straight, neithers the floor!

ah yes, our old place was like that. wonky walls and floor, ceiling wasnt much better. and god help you if you opened the living room window, the entire frame was on the verge of falling out from being sneezed on! boiler broke, landlord put electric heaters in instead, door locks where fucked.

got as far as laminating the entire flat then thought yeah fuck this we're moving when a bigger cheaper, better place came up.

no wonder why we moved out LOL.

(ironically, the boiler broke down in the new place within 1 week of moving in, landlord got a brand new one installed within 2 weeks!)

i checked the C runners on my bracket, but both where at the same place. im just like, meh, my method worked out in the end lol.

still looks a little off due to the walls but its actually fine.

Trouble is most people mount the TV way too high and you are constantly looking up to see it. Mine was mounted on the chimney breast for a couple of months but even then at the lowest point it could be mounted it was just too high. It is now on an Oak cabinet with all the wires hidden away and at a proper viewing height.

haha thats true, nothing worse than a kink in your neck because some twat put it to high.

mines only a couple of feet higher than where i was so its pretty good height. but also high enough i dont have to worry about the 2 year old german shepard going nuts and breaking stuff.

Ours is on the chimney and its perfect. Yes we are looking up at it a little but the height is pretty straight when your relaxing on the counc with your feet up.

The advantage of having the LED over the plasma or LCD is the angle is pretty wide without losing any image quality. I know with the LCD you only have a limited angle before it gets all black and funny.

it is a bit funy though, led lights have the worste dispersal angle of the different types of lights yet led tv's have good viewing angles.

Cheap brackets are generally just that. There are better quality brackets that come with elongated holes, usually the holes will be elongated in different axis' on each side. So on the left there's some upppy-downy movement, and the right there's some lefty-righty slop.

No matter what, if you're fixing things to brick walls, use proper sized (read: as big as will fit) rawl plugs and screws, then put the bracket on. You'll be surprised how far you can correct that spirit level bubble by putting some wood against the bracket and whacking it with a hammer.

Oh, and bracketsRus are a quality outfit - buy from them (not linked for spammy reasons).

thanks stuntman, going to need another bracket soon so will get one from there.

i used 10mm plugs + 10mm bolts that required a ratched with 13mm socket and used some 15mm washers with 10mm holes. its firmly attatched to the wall hehe

Oddly everyone who has come into my house has commented on how low my tv is. It's set to the same height as if it's on a stand.


Also makes me laugh at the overkill around the fixings used, tv's are much lighter than a kitchen cupboards yet people use stronger fixings :-S

We got ours mounted as the little 'un kept pressing buttons. Thankfully we don't have a fire on the chimney breast wall so didn't have to mount it so high

You drilling through brick or concrete?
I live in a flat, and the main solid wall is concrete - My room is stupidly small and im also thinking of hanging it on the main wall just to free up space - Yet, I cant seem to drill through the sodding concrete with halfrauds drill bits (that are for concrete)

another reason for people using very strong overkill mountings is that a kitchen cupboard is usually alot cheaper to replace.

if mine fell off the wall, i'd just buy some sheet wood and then a door to match.

a kitchen cupboard can be as costly as a new tv admittedly, but usually they're profesionally made and fitted.

most tv wall mounts are put up by the random joe blog. so using overkill fittings is just security against any "i dont know what im doing" lol

In my experience with TV brackets, measurements just don't work out. My sisters boyfriend kept telling the tape won't help us, use your eyes, and after using the measuring tape and getting it wrong, he was so right!
