Am I likely to get a fine here for not declaring SORN.

I bought my RG125 Gamma on 11/08/12

The bike was pretty much in bits and the previous keeper told me the bike was on SORN.

The new registration certificate arrived today 07/09/12

I go online to make a new SORN, as I was aware they expire when a vehicle is sold.

The SORN was successful, but the website said the old SORN ran out on 31/07/12 and due to the gap in SORN/Licencing the registered keeper may get contacted by the DVLA.

Am I likely to get a fine, and if so how do I avoid paying it, as I don't think I have done anything wrong.

On my part I couldn't have declared the SORN any earlier and the Registration certificate only came back this morning and I needed the document registration number.

Many Thanks.

This. I know of plenty of people who have pushed renewing their tax for long after they should have done and nothing came of it in spite of the threat of hefty fines.

I would be very surprised if you hear any more of this, it simply isn't worth it to them to go chasing up, especially as you have now declared it.

I'm in agreement with Spangle, don't fret, even if you do get a letter, ignore it (or come on here for advice of what to do at the time!). It'll be fine Very Happy Now go forth and enjoy your weekend!

I had two bikes uninsured and not (according to DVLA) SORNed for about 7 months, got the whole parcel of "SORN it", "SORN it now", "Bribe us £50 to not get prosecuted" and "Now you must bribe us £100 to not get prosecuted" before I finally got around to SORNing online, and that was the last I ever heard of it.

You might get unlucky, but I doubt they make their costs back from actually prosecuting, and worst case they'll take the bribe at the courtroom door, so you've got nothing to lose by just ignoring any threats that you receive short of a summons.

If I do get any letters I will just send one back asking them to contact the previous owner, as he let the SORN lapse before I even bought it.

Do not respond to any of their SORN letters.
Doing so opens up a channel of communication that will lead to ballache.

Ok, I shall ignore them.

Would they just give up if I do that, or would I get a summons.

You wont get a summons. they aren't going to pursue it through the
courts for a bike being untaxed / not sorned for less than a month.

The worst that will happen is they will bill you for a month of tax, and
even that is unlikely.

i have a bike that wasn't sorned/taxed for 2 years. I bought it with the idea of doing it up. a few months ago I finished it, then thought, I have never recieved a log book (V5 young people Laughing )

I applied for a new one and have it. I haven't received a bribe letter or fine yet.

Do

This.

The DVLAzy are more about intimidation than actions.
