I'm on the train home from Laahndaahn, I have a few cans of lager in my bag which I'm tucking into.

I feel strangely delinquent doing so, and have had a couple of disapproving looks from the people around me.

So, am I a desperate loser, bound for alcoholicsville, or is it perfectly acceptable to sink a few tins on a train?

Just don't get wrecked and start abusing the passengers or the staff and you'll be fine. One of the only reasons to take the train anywhere is to either get on the beer early or carry on when travelling home.

The sell beer/wine/spirits on some trains. Fuck everyone else.

I do it, fuck em. One of the few benefits of the train over a car is the ability to have a cold beer on the way.

Nearly always on the Brighton-London trains presuming it's past midday - pretty much guarantees no one sitting next to you, and I always make a point of sticking the empties in the bin after Thumbs Up

Anyway, I'm off to the pub *burp*

No harm in having a beer or two on the train. It only becomes a problem if you suddenly turn into Rab C Nesbit.

Isn't that the point of going on the train?
There're probably just hippy fags who don't have cars / bikes, disregard their existence.

If you've finished work and want a beer why should you not do so. You'd be having one now if you were at home, it's not your fault pubic transport is too sh1t to get you there in time Wink

As long as it's not an 8am train to work and it's not a can you 'earned' in the toilet it's all ok Thumbs Up

I once got unbelievably filthy looks on the train for having a few beers. I'd gone to the station straight from work and was on the way to London to meet some friends in order to have a beer or five. Nothing wrong with a few beers after work thinks I, so why is everyone giving me the evils? Then I realised, it was 7.30am and they were all on the way to work, they were just jealous (and not in possession of all the facts.)

Meh, I've got 8 hours on a train coming up followed by 2 hours on a ferry. If you think I'm going to be teetotal for the journey you'll be greatly disappointed. I shall have a few chilled ones in my bag ready for the sun passing the yardarm. I intend to arrive at my destination completely unable to find it!

I like to tuck into a can or two on my way home from work.

That's why I have a flip-front helmet.

Aaaaaaaaaaa see what I did there?

I didn't read all the options before selecting the "don't see the problem" option. Otherwise I would've selected the cock loving one. Dammit.

Haven't got a problem with it unless you get excessive.

Incoming story time

On the way back from Edinburgh to London with my mum a rowdy, lone, drunk newcastle-ite came and sat opposite us at our table. He spoke loudly into his mobile phone, swearing and being violent, kept popping open blue WKD's (lol wtf?) and downing them, getting more and more drunk, until at Newcastle he got up, screamed a string of swearwords, and then left the train.

Avoid doing that kind of thing and it's fine by me. I've got drunk on a train before but all I did was cry over my ex. Earned some serious man points.

Edit: Well that said...once my TA unit had a mass trip to the army-navy rugby and we all got fuckfaced on the train, including the NCO's. The RSM was a complete nutcase and playing a game he called "how homophobic are you" which involved a lot of touching.

That was fun (apart from being groped by the RSM) but probably very unpleasant for the rest of the passengers. Well...we made up most of the passengers Mr. Green Thumbs Up

I used to take the train to/from University and often they would sell alcohol.

Sometimes I would get an upgrade to First Class for 50p or whatever. It's part of the meal package.

Nothing wrong with drinking on a train, it's being an aggressive drunk that is the problem. The alcoholic nature of the drink isn't the issue, it's the effect on others.

Normally I'm ok with it though I did get weirded out one time by some guy who had an entire sports bag full of bottles of Becks. He also had a knack of opening them with a 10p piece, and to this day I wish I'd asked him how he did that.
