Posted: 22:45 - 07 Sep 2012 Post subject: Insurance company that actually insure restricted bikes? |
 |
|
Hi folks, I have joined this forum in the hope to get a few answers to a few queries that I have regarding my sons biking future.
I my self am a biking vet of 30 years, but I have searched the www for certain answers, most to no avail
My first question is, can anyone please suggest to me a specific insurance company that actual DO insure motorcycles that have been fitted with the 33hp restriction kit. My son (now18) passed his cat A restricted licence last year and has one year left before his restriction is lifted. He has one years no claims on his other bike as well as having his A restricted licence for a year.
So now he wants to buy a larger bike ( 750 Mv Agusta F4) that will be restricted to 33hp.
I have tried ALL the comparison sites but none of them have sections for restricted bikes. So I decided to try to call an insurance company Carol Nash in person, after 30 minutes giving our life story and wasting my time, they tell me that they will not insure a restricted bike ( although I heard different ). One often hears of larger bikes being restricted, but we're do people go for insurance?
So fellas, does anyone actually know of any companies that actually insure bikes that have been restricted to 33 hp Some one I can actually ring and talk to knowing they will insure restricted bikes......please

Yup, they have a big list of mods, most of which only put pennies on the quote, if that. And they don't charge for most mid-term adjustments. It's almost like they actually understand bikes and bike insurance!
This link should get you £40 off.
Do be aware that they want to see copies of your license, although you can just email them a decent photograph of it.
That said, if you can get a better quote elsewhere without declaring the restrictor, I'd consider doing that, because in what universe could it possibly increase the risk that they're covering? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Ridden a restricted GSXR750, wasn't that bad. He was keeping within the law that's all.
I never did, but its up to others if they want to restrict their bikes.
OP,usually I'd say H&R insurance, pretty cheap and accept 33hp bikes, just they are faggots and demand proof... see thread here > https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=253442 |

Thanks for all your replays, even the silly ones. My sons bike will be restricted, I don't want him taking the chance of loosing his (now valuable) restricted license. If that happens then he will have to wait 5-6 years under the new biking rules in 2013 to ride a big bike. All said and done as things are right now, he will be 18 going on 19 when his restriction is lifted and he can ride what he likes.
He has saved hard to buy this F4 and nothing else will do. He does regularly ride my Full power F4 and Hayabusa of road on a private road, so he knows certainly how to handle a big bike. He will still be keeping his 125 to compute to collage on, the F4 will only be for the occasional sunny days
I shall try The links above thanks very much. However I do miss the days of just picking up the phone and asking for a quick quote. Now they won't answer a simple question unless they real of 100 question
Though after paying over £4000 each for both of my sons car insurance at 18, insurance company's are right up there with the devil and bankers IMO |
