I've had this Cagiva for about 3 months now, and with getting a flat tyre on Wednesday, I’ve decided to clean up and make the front all nice and tidy.

I'm planning on replacing the tyre with an Avon speedmaster II anyone know if these are ok?

I'm no mechanic, but I have a fairly basic idea of how to wave my hands about in the right way to not break things.

Anyway, I'm going to need some help and pointers (if people don't mind).

Firstly I'd like to get the wheel off. I know how to do that, but I can't seem to get the brake caliper off the disk!

Here you can see that I've removed the bolts from the forks, but the caliper simply wont slide off the disk. What should I do to get it off?

Here is another view showing that that pads seem ok.

The disk is a bit rusty but a lot of that is due to it being a cast disk but shouldn't need replacing?

Secondly, one of the fork seals is leaking. But I can't work out how to get the dust seal off. Most bikes have a plastic dust seal which sits at the top of the fork which you can pick off with a screw driver. But these are rubber and though I’ve tried to get a thin screw driver down the outer side I can't seem to get them to pop up.

Any Ideas?

I'd also like to repaint the sliders, what is the best to do? Strip them and repaint?

Also the wheel is minging is that better powder coated or stripping and spraying by hand?

1.) The caliper is just getting caught on the lip on the disk.Feel it yourself and it will have a raised edge to it.(The disc). Just take the pads out and it will come off.

2.) The dust seal is correct. You can either use a pick to remove it or something similar, just be very careful not to scratch the stanchion.Go from the outside.

3.) Spoked wheels will normally need to be stripped for powder coating (remove all the spokes),but someone on here might know different.Powder coating is the way to go though.

4.) Normal paint for the fork lowers or you can have these powder coated as well.

With the caliper, just twist it side to side slightly to push the piston in. It will then come free.
Thumbs Up

Brakes serviced and free'd up. Wheel wet n dried and ready for some looking at.

I can't work out the seal. I may take the side off and take it to my local repair guy to sort out.

Hi

Looking at the manual it just shows the circlip above the fork seal without an outer dust seal.

All the best

Looking at the old PDF, I can see what you mean, but i've got some seals for my bike and they are just normal ones.

These certainly have a rubber dust seal of some kind on top as pictured.

I'll take it to my local bike repair chap to have a look at.

Also how much oil do I need for the forks? It doesn't mention in the service manual.

Hi

At the specs in the front it says 0.2L of 10W30 oil in the forks (which sounds a bit low).

All the best

Keith

Ahh thanks, I hadn't thought of looking at the front bit. 200ml does seem a bit low?

This is a "version 2" model, a 98 S 125.

The two versions are;

93-96? Model which was monoshock rear.
96-00 Model with dual shock rear.

Think CB125S to CB125TDE but the other way round.

TBH it's a lie calling it a Cagiva. Its really the last CZ bike built but with a Cagiva aircooled 2T engine.

I need to get the seal off this leg of the fork and get it sorted.

The only issue is that I want to sort the frame too. But this is my work transport so I can't really take it all a part.

Maybe I should get a second bike and use that while this one is in bits Sad
