Earlier in the year I won a Pillion ride with Ron Haslam, on the Honda big weekend.

On Tuesday, I went to Silverstone to do it, after the rubbish summer it's been the first good day I had off to do it!

Having never ridden pillion before it was certainly an eye opener!

Ron was really nice and friendly, quite down to earth and not any of the arrogance you get from some drivers and sports people.

He certainly put the hammer down, the speed was phenomenal, I've never been that fast on a motor vehicle before! I should have been more scared maybe but I was confident in his ability which meant I could concentrate on holding on!

Pulling wheelies at 100mph+ and my arse hanging in mid air certainly makes you hold on for grim death.

Also CBR1000RR's are not built for 6'2” pillions!

My Mum did a pillion lap with Ron last year, as she's in her 60's and never been on a bike before it was a bit of an eye opener for her.
She's a big bike racing fan and also won it as a prize so wanted to do it just to say she'd been around Silverstone.
Ron and Ann were both really nice, Leon was there as well and the firstarter guy from the Prodigy randomly.

He was standing about drinking tea Smile , but he was wearing leathers so I think he had been riding earlier.

Sweet. I saw Randy Mamola take some of the winners of a Riders for Health competition around Mallory, very quickly and mostly on one wheel, in the wet. I was terrified, I wouldn't have fancied that much.
