Even on here there are horror stories about it so can anyone say anything good about gumtree?

Bought my bike from there and it all went smoothly. Like any site, you can usually sniff out the dodgy sellers.

Sold my CBR125 within a week of putting it on Gumtree.

Yeah I got scam emails, but they're not exactly any different to any other spam email. Just delete, can see em a mile off.

Gumtree is made of people!

Sure, all the thieves and scammers sell their stuff there, but that doesn't mean that everyone selling there is a thief or a scammer.

My main gripe is that it doesn't appear to have a lot of traffic if you are trying to sell something.

I bought my bike off Gumtree from a dealer in Wigan. Really top bloke, good bike and it was about £700 cheaper than any Varadero of the same age and condition that I could find locally. More than worth the cost and hassle of collecting it.

Never bought anything bike related from gumtree - but got lots of bargains in the past - 21 speed push bike with full suspension, disk brakes & 2 new tyres for £25! Or more recently I got a Bose lifestyle DVD player / surround sound system for £250 (cheapest equivalent on eBay was £600+ at the time) Thumbs Up

I've bought a few things for the house off Gumtree & it's been great for selling off the baby equipment we don't need anymore. You do get those where you know something aint right, just ignore them. When I'm selling anything on there I stick my obile number on the advert, if the buyer is serious they'll call. Thumbs Up

I tend to avoid... still look though.

I find it a pain in the arse that you can search by postcode?

It's all gay locations... am I doing it wrong?

Search by county, in your county and then neighbouring ones.. And then order by price, that's what I do. For the bargains I'd be willing to travel, distance is less important.

Gumtree is Brilliant if used properly,

I tend to look at the description layout more than anything, if it's got a good description, spelling mainly correct, sentences understandable. same goes for eBay if the description look's pants i stay well away.

Never buy anything before viewing that's one RULE i have always gone by.

Hope this helps

Matt

You'd have been just as ripped off if you'd bought the same bike for the same cash price via eBay or Bike Trader or the local rag classifieds.

Any advert really just says "bike (probably) for sale, come and look at it"

I have this feeling that Gumtree is a little bit too "Jeremy Kyle" in its user demographic.

Funny you should say that. I got my bike off Gumtree and have had to be physically restrained from throwing sun-dried tomatoes and pate fois gras at my ex's Aston Martin. I have also taken 3 paternity tests, none of them were mine...

Bought the gf's bike from there. Went and looked at a few different bikes, including the most abused CB500 i've ever laid eyes on, before getting her a ZZR600 for £600. Nice bloke we bought it off, there were a couple of issues but he was honest about everything. If you're sensible its fine.

For some reason in the motorbike section its 80% pit bikes where I live... Confused

Same around here. Pit bikes and quads. I think it reflects the type of ''Jeremy Kyle'' scum that the fencing site attracts.
I recently went to look at a couple of bikes that were advertised on the site and they were both absolute bags of shit and also obviously stolen.
It kinda makes Ebay look respectable.
