Just wondering whether an ECU remap is worth it? I have a Nissan Almera 2.2 Di. Websites claim I can get a 40bhp increase in power! And also a 15% increase in fuel economy... sounds too good to be true.

Someone I know does it for £200.00.

So... advantages? Disadvantages?

Will it really make a difference?

Thanks

Yes mate it's a turbo diesel. Just wanted to know whether it was worth it. The turbo lag on mine at the moment is ridiculous.

I don't think you'll get anywhere near 40hp increase, possibly 15 or so... but thats properly done.

£200 could be spent in a better way than on an Almera.

Well for me personally it would be worth it if it improved my drive to work in anyway. And if the car drives a lot nicer then it will make my morning and afternoon drives nicer.

That would equate to 12hours of nicer driving per week not including driving outside of work.

So if it makes a difference and is noticeable then it would be worth it for me.

Don't forget to factor in the insurance.... you were going to declare this performance modification, right...?

Just had my company car done (Nissan Juke) - its not the 35BHP they claim quicker but definitely pulls better, at a guess I'd say aprox 20bhp, can't be arsed paying to have it tested. It's more responsive, the power doesn't tail off as quickly when the revs are up, and I'm getting about 6mpg more - so worth it in my eyes Thumbs Up

Why? Isn't it time to grow up a bit.

Hire a fast car, go round a track.

On the road, stick to the speed limits, accelerate gently, brake wisely.

You are polishing a turd, putting lipstick on a pig.

I never get "boy racers" who seem intent on letting everyone else know just how immature they still are. I respect those who tune cars themselves - the knowledge is impressive. To pay someone else though to shine your shit is very very infantile.

I've been thinking of getting my 528i ReMapped.

General feeling is its a good thing? I believe as I've got an auto, I can have two different settings (that the right word?), better MPG in normal, and more power in sport?

was going to get my focus done for the better fuel economy, but when I got in touch with the company quoting 15% better fuel it turns out this is the best results available, and not on my model, the best I could expect was 5-6% better and I worked it out that it would take four years to get the costs back as I don't use the car much, only done 40k in 8 years!

I think I'm going to get mine done. Fuel economy increase would be worth it alone. Did just over 1200 miles in the 2 weeks I've had the car so far. Be useful to cure the pickup, turbo kicks in way to late at present and without the turbo the car just doesn't do react when I need it to.

Mondeo man, thanks for your valuable wisdom.. Don't know how I've managed to keep my license clean for the past 12 years with my boy racer ways. The whole 30bhp will put the car near an astonishing and mind boggling 140 bhp... Should suit the boy racer look of the car with the steelies and tape deck!!

Turd polishing ahoy!

On 99% of car ECUs there is no way of reading installed maps. No way at all.

But factor in that remapping means advancing the timing, so you will need to run on premium petrol to get the added benefit if you are remapping a petrol engine

Up to those figures, you can get the full power map but you will lose economy and visa versa. You can have a mid way one where you get power and economy but you will not get the maximum.

My BMW X6 has been done and gone from 306bhp to 348bhp and torque up from 599nm to 700nm. Also economy has jumped from 27mpg up to 35mpg and the car it much better to drive with instant pick up, worth doing it just for that. Could have gone up to the same power as the X6 50M as they use the same engine but would lose economy. No trace by the dealer either when it was serviced.

The wifes 120d has been done as well and power is up from 170bhp to 210bhp, not sure about the torque on that but again the economy is 7mpg better than before.

IMO it is well worth doing.
