right well today after fixing up all the electrics to the engine i took the bike out for a spin. sadly straight away i noticed the bike struggles in low gear i mean really struggles the gears feel and sound fine to me it sounds like lack of power in low gear i have to nock it into 4th before the engine crusies along fine at about 50mph. the carb makes a terrible racket it sounds like the carb may be not in sync with the engine bare in mind this carb was from a old honda points engine so im thinking that the engine is getting a lack of fuel to air ratio or too much and causing the engine to work harder get hotter and give less power as it struggles through the gears. now correct me if i wrong but does this sound right? many thanks mike

note that my honda cg br j has been converted to cdi with a cdi loom and cdi engine i done this myself and it kicks over and the battery charges the bike works but my problem now is the engine i think its carb realted but it could be somthing else. is it worth me taking the carb that came with the cdi engine and putting that on first then trying it? instead of using the points one that was on the old points engine?

Don't really understand the mods you've done but wouldn't think either carb would not be a problem as bore stroke and rpm are all in the same range.! Also make sure you ain't left the choke on as the spring loaded choke flap tends to clatter about if not in the off position correctly

ive checked the carb even swaped it over for another one and still same problem ive even gone out and brought a new spark for the engine and still no luck and now i cant even set the clutch right i cant seem to find netural when the bike is on.

if i turn it off i can select nuatral and any gear no problem but when i have the bike on i really have to press down hard so either ive put the gear lever on wrong or the clutch needs adjust even tho i tried adjusting it both ways.

ahh i give up grrr i took the other engine apart today and looked down the shaft and looked through the crankcase and there appears to be 2 holes that have been made now either somthing has shot through them and blown to holes through the engine i dont know but the cogs and gears seem worn and looked pretty wrecked. theres no metal fragments in the oil but the oil does smell odd thats the first thing i noticed when i opend the engine up and the engine has not been on since i taken it off the bike.

well what ever the cause its fair to say the engine was on its way out and so ive concluded that it was worth my time swaping the engines over.

but now i have this problem with the new cdi engine it runs and kicks over first time the compression is good it just cuts out and starts to fluctuate in power when the throttle is on full.

so much so u can hear the engine lose power it makes a terrible wracket. its fine in lower speeds its only when the throttle is at full swing that the engine gives up. id expect the engine to just cycle over on full throttle not lose power then try recover then lose power over and over!my mate said its proberly the engine at its limit but even so it shouldnt suddleny drop in power then try recover in radom cycles.

somthing is not right my mate had a look he said that he dont think its a petrol issue but then again he thinks it could be hes not shure. any ideas im really left in a rock and a hard place i need to goto work yet i cant get about and how much more time do i put off before i end up going round in circles! Sad
