Hi, I have just passed my mod 2 and have put my 125 up for sale.

I've recently had a few people ask me if I am willing to deliver the bike to them but I am unsure about this because I have no idea if this is a possible scam method or not.

I am more used to the typical idea of people coming to you, paying money if they are happy with the bike/car and then riding/driving away with it.

What are your thoughts, am I worrying over nothing?

If the seller wants it, the seller can arrange collection by courier.

Tell them to GTFO

If it's taxed and MOTed they can ride it home. If not they need to arrange their own van or courier.

This....Bike couriers aren't expensive.

I got mine delivered from Newcastle to Edinburgh for £80.

Would've cost me more than that to get it myself!

It's probably people who haven't done their CBT yet. If they pay for the petrol/time before you leave then I don't see the harm if it gets the bike sold!

Ask if there is a particular reason why they are unable to ride it back themselves, insurance cover notes aren't a biggy so that shouldn't be a problem.
If it's someone who as yet to complete a cbt then they could either make their way to you, pay up then you deliver.
Or if they are willing to buy unseen, simply get them to pay via bank transfer - as soon as funds have cleared into your account you can arrange delivery.

Ok thanks for the advice guys.
If they are serious about buying it, then I'll recommend they get their own courier provided I have been paid in full.

If you do think of doing this, get an address and check it's legit. have a car full of mates follow you down if you aren't sure.

Just don't do it unless it's close. Get the money up front including delivery charges.

A lack of licence is probably the most common one.

I bought my CB500 before I passed Mod 2, so it had to go off in a van.

Three miles down the road.

I know there's a trust issue here but get the buyer to come look, sus them out and if you unsure don't deliver. I wouldn't have my bike if the seller wasn't kind enough to deliver (40 miles). Why not take a healthy deposit for delivering?

I went and viewed my bike (did take the kids along as wife had to drive), offered a deposit and the kind fella just said he'd keep the documents until cash was handed over on delivery (he was a lot bigger than me, so whatever he said was good with me. lol). His wife followed him with the kids in tow. He even delivered it with a full tank! I gave him an extra £50 for his troubles.

I have to say that I couldn't get a better welcome to the biking fraternity.

I had this when I was selling my YBR125. He had CBT, but was not confident with the gears. It was 40 miles one way. He asked me to deliver it. I said fine, it would be £50 for delivery and I want it on my paypal before hand - he came next day on his own by train and picked up the bike.

He came few day earlier as well, so I was sure it is not a scum - I was really ready to deliver the bike, but not for free, as only way to do it for me would be to go with wife in the car - no train station in nearby to delivery location.

There are lots of reasons why people would like bike to be delivered to them and I believe most are genuine, I just would charge for such service if it is significant distance

Of course it's a possible scam, but if you get cash in your hand, job done. It's more reasonable for 125s than other vehicles.

Just be clear that you're not riding it to them for a viewing! They can pay you (at least) a non-refundable deposit up front if they want it delivered to their door.
