Mrs Raffles is suffering with a condition known as plantar fasciitis. She has sought medical assistance and is currently being tried out with various painkillers etc. She is trying to avoid cortisone injections but may have to succumb if the pain continues.
Does anyone have experience of this condition and if so what treatment and or exercises did you find to be the most effective?

Gahh, I feel sorry for her, I have it at the moment and have had it for the past year and it is one heck of a bugger to get rid of. I started by just making sure I stretched well after aerobics/zumba/swimming/cycling/gym, when that didn't work I started strapping it up, which provided relief when strapped up but didn't make the problem go away.

I then stopped aerobic exercise or anything that put stress on the heal for 2 months. As soon as I went back to exercise it started up again.

I bought a night splint (this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Futuro-Night-Plantar-Fasciitis-Sleep-Foot-Support-Splint-Brace-Adjustable-/261039516889?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc72aecd9)
and this helps massively, as long as I wear it the night I have done the exercise, I can walk in the morning. It isn't making it go away though, so feck knows where I'm going to go next, don't want cortisone and pain killers are only masking the problem.

Here you go, have a read of this thread.

I can only say that everyone is different, but Stinkwheel's advice of the Caipan seemed to hit the spot for me. I've still got the tube and use it occasionally if I feel a bit uncomfortable, but toes crossed I haven't had a reoccurance to the same degree, just the odd niggle.

I do sympathise, as it's really painful, uncomfortable and miserable - the cream is not expensive and has to be worth a punt!

Thanks Tonka! Gotta be worth a try! To be honest I haven't really put a lot of effort into resolving mine, keeping off it was, I guess, the lazy thing to do. Off to Zumba tonight though so I know it's gunna hurt like hell in the morning, it sure did after I walked up Snowdon last Sunday, two days solid of yowey heel!

I also got one of these which feels really nice, I use it in the morning whilst I'm putting my make-up on, seems to stretch it all out a bit and help me walk on it: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001RHXTX0/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00

Brother-in-law-borg is just out from his 2nd surgery for that[*]. Treat it as a serious medical condition, and if it doesn't clear up quickly, get all the help you can as soon as you can. Sad

[*] Update - after checking with him, it turns out that he had something similar with most of the same symptoms. I didn't follow the technobabble, but after trying drugs and injections and a comedy moon boot the solution seems to be to hack bits out of his heel until they get the hurty bit. Sick

Anyway, his advice is to get past the GP stage and on to a specialist as soon as you can, because they hear "I can't walk, or sleep and think I'm going mental from the pain" and think "foot a bit hurty, take some paracetamol and come back in 3 months". Mad

Both me and my old mam have got this. Mother's got it bad in both feet.

I had it reeaallyy bad in the left heel but it seems to be finally getting better on its own. But I have been doing some extreme stretching of the ankle, then walking on the ball of the foot, before finally putting weight on the heel.

It certainly is a bastard.

My wife had it for a while.

She had some physio and followed all the excercises they told her to do.

shoes that have ache supports in them help, sketcher are brand that I know have the arch support, she got some for work as she is on her feet all day and they seem to really help

Best of luck and hope she gets well soon. Looks bloody awful, I'd hate to not be able to run comfortably etc.

Though, did anyone else think the name of the condition is, well, odd? Face plant itis? I thought this thread was a joke before clicking through. Shows my ignorance I guess.

Hi
It is very nice of you to take care of your her in such a way.
There are many things she can do to treat her plantar fasciitis before corticosteroid shots and before surgery. I had plantar fasciitis for about two years and I discovered that treatment is individual. Things that work for one will not always work for the other. The good news is that she has many treatments she can try but she must be persistent and patient.
I have found a good plantar fasciitis treatment review website in this link. There are many self care treatments ideas in there but I think your mom should consult a podiatrist before she does something.
Take care

Yeah, it's horrible.

My tips.

Change your shoes as many times a day as possible (without looking like a mentalist).
Use a freeze spray on the sole of your foot if it's niggling.
When barefoot scrunch your toes up and relax them, for a second at a time, repeatedly for as long as you can be bothered, i.e. when watching TV in the evening.
