I understand your rant. Ebay charge you to place an advert, charge you when you have sold it and charge you to receive the money through paypal.

The trouble is it is damn convenient and easy and cause of that I won't buy anything from ebay that you can't use paypal for, and then, like you, I moan like you when selling.

I don't know the answer.

10% is a pretty standard markup.

I charge 15% on top of cost when I sell stuff. How much profit do you make on the items you sell?

I'm sure it's a lot more than 10% when you count insertion fees, final fees and Paypal fees. They are all the same company.

If you don't like it, don't use it. Simples. Set up your own system and use that.

Paypal offer a service. You choose to use it. That is all. It is expensive, which is why I don't use it to receive money. Paypal is good for buyers though. Lots of protection and no fees.

If there was another service that was the same, but lower costs then i would use it. Sadly there isnt and Paypal is fueled by ebay almost forcing its customers to use it.

My brother had his paypal limited before, but that was because he was doing dodgy stuff with it Laughing They cant actually keep your money forever though.

How much money do you think it would take to set up an eBay competitor?

A monopoly is almost always terrible for the consumer, and for other businesses in the case of ebay/paypal too.
