Good news, CBT passed.
Going from never ridden a bike to at least being considered up to the level required for CBT was excellent.
4 on the course, 2 passed 2 were refused from the on the road part as they were deemed unsafe. Mind you, this was fair enough as one of them had been a bus driver for 25 years, she got on a twist and go and even though she seemed in control, she pretty much hit full throttle then bounced off a wire fence. Leaving the instructor concerned, as she was laid on the floor not moving. She was a bit shocked but fine. She eventually got back on.
The other girl, I thought was a little harsh, she was on a manual and doing well, but needed a push. In all fairness the amount of time wasted on the woman after she embedded her scooter into the fence she would've got the help she needed. She also dropped her bike, smashing of the mirror and a bracket they have just refitted after waiting 6 weeks for a replacement.
I did fairly well, kept hearing that voice in my ear, cancel your indicators!
So you CAN fail your CBT, but perhaps not quite as spectacularly though! |

A bloke I was doing my CBT with at the same time shot off down the car park, jumped the curb and put it in a hedge. Incompetent nitwit. I'd have got my CBT done in one day if the instructor hadn't had to piss about with numpties for so long, as it was it took me 3 days. ____________________

You had one instructor for 4 of you?! That's just wrong. Seems people are getting ripped off out there Glad you got through it, there were only two of us when I did my CBT and the other guy was well ahead of me, he ended up going out on the road with another instructor whilst the initial instructor stayed with me, I thought that was quite good of them. Well done for completing it, especially considering the circumstances!
Will you be doing lessons? If so I'd be weary about doing them with those guys, unless they can guarantee there will be no more than two people per instructor, they just can't possibly be giving you enough attention otherwise. ____________________ What would you do in life, if you knew you could not fail?

The school where I did my CBT had 4 students for the course, we all went out on the road. The instructor took 2 students out for the road ride, then the other 2 students when we got back. The 2 guys that didn't go out first were allowed to practice while they waited as there was other instructors around that were helping them. I guess it works provided there's other instructors around to keep an eye whilst the others are doing the road ride. ____________________ CBT: Pass 25/06/2011 Theory Test: Pass12/06/2012 Mod 1: Fail 08/07/2012

That's exactly what would've happened, this was in the off-road section. But the other two were refused the on-road section. Hence only one on-road session.
In all honesty, the instructor was great, but there were a number of things that made me uneasy, about the whole experience and not nerves. Just the school as a whole, receptionist just plain rude and other things.
I will be taking lessons, but not there, also the wife wants to do her CBT, but I won't let her do it there. |

Rode my bike home from the dealer, although I seemed to get into a groove, I'm not quite ready for other road users doing silly things! White Van Man and silly woman in a car both had a go at wiping me out. Not so much of a panic, but forgetting to do things, some of which may be dangerous, other things just silly.
So much more practice is needed before I can consider my commute, but was happy, bike was perky and stopped much better than the drum braked CG.
Going to practice, practice, practice whilst it's quiet and then build up from there.
Other than that, it felt good. After settling down now, I've got a smile. Another biker hits the road (hopefully not literally!). |

Find somewhere quiet (an industrial estate on Sunday is good) and get used to the bike so riding it is 2nd nature. Then when in heavy traffic you can concentrate on whats going on around you without thinking of your own riding and the bike

Went out again tonight, so much better, really felt like I was in control of the bike and doing it right. I'm a bit of a wimp at the minute and have the wife tailing me in the car, but also with the camera in the car so I can see what I'm doing wrong (also what I'm doing right ) when I get home. |

Aww bless ya! I guess I had never really wondered what people do if they don't have a mate to go out with the first time or two. My partner rides so I made him come out with me a couple of times before I did my commute to work, and my first go on my own I was so scared, feel so vulnerable, but it gets a whole lot easier REALLY quickly, trust me! ____________________ What would you do in life, if you knew you could not fail?
