If you have an aftermarket exhaust, and you have NOT declared it to your insurance company your insurance is deemed INVALID, whip them off and get some standard one's to put on Thumbs Up

Don't risk trying to get past the insurance company the scum will do anything to get out of not paying Very Happy

Cite your references and define "invalid".

You have a £500 excess right? Reckon you can fix it for less than £500 + your increased premiums from having a claim? Then get on to the insurance company, tell them it's been recovered, you don't need to claim any more and go fetch it (you may need to stick it in a van).

Confirm with the insurance company that there won't be a claim on your record as a result of this.

Also fetch it fast - the impound may well charge you storage fees.

About to go have a look,

But if I remember the Honda tech told me ages ago that the HISS system cost 1500 quid to replace as bikes need a new ECU etc etc

Starting to panic now!

The hiss system is quite expensive...but you can get it fairly cheap, dealers aren't "too bad."

Wires may be cut but you could possibly get it started/running as you have the key/ECU intact.

Even if you have to replace the key, you can generally still use the old HISS system by taping the old key to the new one.

As the bike was stolen, if it was really an issue "well, it was standard when it was stolen" Smile.

Chill. I didn't tell my insurance about the aftermarket thing on the Buell, and they didn't really care.

You can still take the bike home then make a claim by the way - pretty standard for that to happen whatever.

So I'd be getting it back off them to minimise storage charges if you don't make a claim and gives you time to consider if you do.

Hi guys about to pop up take a look as only a push bike ride from my house

I could push bike home from there about 1 hours walk, I have keys I'm guessing old system is there but I'm very very far from a mechanic so I think I will struggle to asses the damage just by looking at it ,if the bike is all scratched up will it be worth claiming for new fairing new ECU systems etc etc ????

Get some pictures and put them up here.

You will basically have two options - don't claim and pay storage charges etc yourself.
Claim and get given either the bike back working or money for a new bike. You'll have to pay your full excess probably and incur increased insurance for five years.

my insurance says I pay £150 excess for theft, any ideas if my actual excess would be additional on this?

You could always say the thieving scum but the exhaust whilst in their possession... that'd be a great situation if they didn't bugger the ignition up too Mr. Green

I dont see why its an issue. Do car drivers need to declare they replaced the rotten original exhuast on their car with something from kwik fit?
In the scheme of things its irrelevant, it goes without saying that original systems do rot far too quickly and need replacing with something more durable which will inevitably be aftermarket due to the high price of OEM stuff...I'd expect it to be taken for granted on many motorbikes.

Absolutely nothing. Shhh!

Sorry that it got nicked, and that you're about to get DPd by the insurers, but there's no need to hand them a 24" dildo.
