There was a 2001 Aprillia RSV Mille that went up for sale on Gumtree yesterday for £1700. Bargain price I thought. Well, about 5 hours later someone stuck up a big warning on gumtree about the bike.

Someone had been to see it and found it had been Cat D registered but also had a hole in the swing-arm which was cracking too. The seller had tried to hide the hole with a sticker.

The original advert was changed to now mention it is Cat D registered but no mention of the swing-arm damage.

The advert:

https://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/aprillia-rsv-milli/110636365#gallery-item-full-1

The very same bike was just advertised on Facebook again with no mention of the swing-arm damage. He is now after a swap or px for trackbike.
I asked if it was the same bike as was mentioned in the Gumtree warning, it was. The lad selling it had got it back from the lad who was trying to flog it on gumtree ????
The damage is apparently just from the exhaust rubbing on the swing-arm, a common problem he stated. I asked why a spacer hadn't been put on to pull it away from the swing-arm. Then he stated a previous owner had but the exhaust strap on the pillion hanger wrongly.

Anyway, i'm guessing he is going to struggle to sell it up in the North East so might flog it on e-bay or sites away from up here.

So if you see it advertised and are interested make sure you check the swing-arm.

This is the pic that was used on Facebook:

He's pulled the adverts of the North east bike related sites he had them on.

I have no doubt he would of sold it if he was honest from the start, but the change of stories and hiding it will put people off.

still probs sell it on ebay lot of people dont bother with gumtree and other cheap/free ad sites. Myself included. Gumtree is fukingwank - every single time ive placed an ad on there, be it a car, bike or tv ive had a spam/fraud email response. They need to get a grip on it.

You could always put photos up of the swingarm to prove the OP wrong. It wouldn't be fair on you if there wasn't anything wrong with your swingarm.

Better to set the facts straight in here if you're trying to sell the bike or people probably won't even bother view it.

Yer your right,I will take some pics today and post them on here later,I just don't no why nick50 had to start this thread,as I explained to him on Facebook a buyer had huffed because he offerd silly money for the rsv and was refused so he took it upon himself to post a add saying that there loads of shit wrong with the bike,if there was anything wrong with it why would I buy it back ???
It's makeing me think is nick50 the instigator of all this shit.

If nick50 would like to give me his address I will personally take the bike to him so he can have a look .

All it is is a friendly warning to a potential BCF buyer to check it properly.

A hole in a swing-arm is a potential death trap. If it was to fail at high speed and the back-end was to collapse, well I think most could speculate the worst case scenario.

But to quickly re-cap:

Advert goes up on gumtree for £1700 with no mention of Cat D status or swing-arm damage.

About 5 hours later a warning goes on gumtree about the bike stating it is Cat D registered and has a hole in the Swing-Arm which is cracking and close to fracturing through the swing-arm. Apparently the buyer was trying to hide the hole with a sticker.

Not long after the original advert is altered to include the Cat D status.

Next day it is listed on Facebook. The advert was different as in swap for another trackbike and not the sale advert that was on gumtree. Also a different picture was used that any on Gumtree. The advert does not mention the swing-arm damage.

I asked if it was the same bike as was warned about on gumtree. Which is was confirmed it was.
The story was, the lad who was selling it the day before was now the previous owner who you just re-bought the bike back off.
The swing-arm damage was apparently caused by the exhaust rubbing on the swing-arm. A common Mille problem you said.
I then said why hadn't a spacer been put in? Then the story changed to that a previous owner had put the exhaust on the pillion hanger on the wrong side of the fixing.

The not long after you completely removed the listing (and the subsequent discussion about the swing-arm) from facebook.

I'll let readers judge how dodgy the above sounds. But as for getting my facts straight, what exactly have I lied about?

None of this would of happened if honesty in both your advert and the owner from the day before had of explained the issue and he hadn't of tried to hide it with a sticker.

But anyway it shouldn't be an issue as you said you were going to stick another swing-arm on it.............so problem solved. Wink
Or alternatively, take the can off, take a pic of the damage and then be truthful in a new advert.

Riders have enough dangers out there without worrying about a critical part on a bike. So warning fellow members of the forum to check the damage you yourself admit is there, is hardly being a "pure jobswoth" is it?

As for me instigating it Laughing

Trawl through my posts on here. You'll see I am without bike, why I am, and when I can get another one. All documented months before your advert went on gumtree......... sorry the lad who was the previous owner to you, the day before.

I would loved to of been the instigator, that would mean I had £1700 extra lying about to go and buy a bike with.

Doesn't look like a hole or a crack.

Looks like a scrape (from a paddock stand?) and a rub mark from an exhaust.

Hardly the end of the world.

Rolling Eyes

Ermmmmmmmmmm seriously how thick do you take us for?

Look at the pic of YOUR bike on the first post.

Now your pic of the swing-arm that you posted showing the "damage":

https://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn6/ElScampio/IMAG0093.jpg

Heel click plate is black (standard for that model with those fairings) on your bike, again look at pic in my original post.
yet on the pic showing the damage, the heel plate isn't black.

Also note the aprillia sticker on the bottom part of the RH fairing which goes under the gear lever (again look at pic in my original post).

Where is that in your pic showing the swing-arm damage? It is completely black with no sticker on it

Also the colours are wrong on the bottom of the RH side of the fairing compared to the model you have.
It should be completely black apart from the small white and red Aprillia sticker.

The pics you have come from one of these:

https://s3.hubimg.com/u/4769254_f520.jpg

Completely different colours to the Mille you have. Note no black heel plate. No aprillia sticker under gear lever.

You do realise you have completely fu**ed up now. Even if you did post real pictures people will think they are fakes because of this stunt.

Doh!

And there we have the other side of the story. The BCF lynch mob douses the flames and retires the pitchforks back to the shed to await the next uprising. Wink
