Right you lot, this is an odd one.

Recently the council has reduced the speed limit near me to 20mph from 30mph. I completely forgot about this one morning and got caught at 31mph. NIP has arrived this morning.
The only reason I can see for them reducing the limit is to make some extra cash, 2 days after the limit is reduced they have camera vans parked on it!!

Now, the speed I was doing is >50% of the limit, reckon this is going to see me banned??

Tom

EDIT:-OH FFS

Its not a NIP, (had a bad day and didnt read it properly) It's a "warning" from the local speed team (old people with a speed camera) apparently my reg is on file and if im caught again I could be prosecuted..... No wonder I didnt see a van.

Cunts.

Doubt it, TBH. I reckon you'll be alright.

Would be very harsh if they did - I mean, it's not like you've been riding the same stretch of road at 30mph for years perfectly safely before they intervened :lol;

I doubt it, especially given the circumstances behind it. 3 points 60 quid most likely?

I never realized they would do speed checks/cameras on 20 zones, I always thought it started at 30, not sure where I read that, here I think.

Ffs Tom.. Laughing

Sorry I can't say anything on the ban side. Have you been asked to come to court?

You haven't had much good luck recently. I hope that this is the end of it for you and Pork Chop!

Come to court? You sound like his personal judge.

"Ooh have we been naughty again. Come on come to court like a good boy".

Just noticed that there's a difference between the legalities of a 20mph ZONE and a 20mph speed limit. Which has been implemented here?

Not sure on what the differences in legalities are, just that there are some Laughing

Frickin' LOL Very Happy That's awesome.

So presumably it's a 20mph zone then - and it looks like 20mph zones are actually unenforceable, from what I've seen - whereas 20mph speed limits are.

Old people with a speed camera? I knew there was something odd going on a few days ago in Bedford! Tons of old people all in high vis crowding around a roundabout that links together 3 roads, with a few tripods and some odd looking cameras, I braked thinking they were real police (wasnt even speeding, just habit as did everyone else)

They really have the authority to get your address and mail you threatening you?

There is some weird stuff abut zones and limits for 20mph places. Some stuff about speed humps and other features being present or not.

'Could' be prosecuted? Send them a letter back telling them nosey old cnuts with spy cameras fillming you cos they fancy you will be reported to the police as perverts Thumbs Up

If you get banned for doing 31mph then you're going to have to make up a story for 'why you got banned' or forever be the subject of copious amounts of ridicule Laughing

Notice it's the same fat fucking police officer in all the pictures - i thnk his speed gun is compensating for something.

I've seen crowds of old people in hi-vis around Chelmsford, Essex - I think they were for some bicycle racing events though, as I don't remember seeing a speedwatch tripod though.

Run the fuckers over next time?

The speed limit isn't a memory test, they normally put up signs and stuff Wink

Miles OT:

I remember reading somewhere, that a lot of the 20 mph limits have seen an increase in accidents in some areas, as drivers were losing concentration by going so slow, getting bored and frustrated.

See if I can dig it up.

Ask to see the Traffic Order changing the speed limit to 20. Ask to see evidence that the required notice was published.

Or just send them a picture of your arse with an invitation to apply lips.

There's that guy in the wheel chair in one pic, some ex-boy racer who overtook 2 cars and went head on into a truck coming the other way.

How the fuck is that speed related, that was just retarded driving, not a direct result of speeding.

Hardly speed related.

Just dont overtake when there is a lorry coming the other way..

Poor bloke.

I just sicked up in my mouth a little. Puke

It's like William Hurt patronising all the deafers in Children of a Lesser God, when it turns out (thank you intardtubes!) he was coke-raping the shit out of Marlee Matlin on a nightly basis.

Yes, it's all very tragic, but it doesn't affect us norms in any meaningful way, and nor should it.

20mph zones bother me.

In Hull as far as I am aware, _every_ 20 limit has accompanying speed bumps, making it not only completely obvious, but suicidal (in suspension terms) to fly around at 30.

In Oxford, vast swathes of the city centre are 20mph, including many back streets. You literally have to guess sometimes, or annoy the person behind you by doing 20 in a 30.

20mph zones should be reserved for schools and hospitals. Someone can turn the signs on when they unlock the front gate. Job done.

.

Most areas in Oxford that are 20mph are residential. Even around oxford city centre is mostly 30mph but its normally quicker to walk than to drive Laughing

I was driving in Oxford the other week in the 20 zone doing 25mph.

A car undertook me using the bus lane, then shouted abuse out of the window.

This was on the Banbury road just before you join St Giles near the city center.

The St Giles speed limit is the most hilarious one.
It's literally the widest road I've ever seen without lane markers, you can see anyone coming from a mile off.
