I had my bike idling for about 15/20 mins and the needle got quite close to the thick white line just before the red zone and the fan didn't come on.

It's different for all bikes. The TDM 900 fan doesn't kick in until the needle is pretty much in the red.

To test the fan, find your thermostatic switch and connect the wire on it to the frame. That will make the fan come on.

It wont kick in, your temp gauge isn't attached to the bike Laughing Laughing

The temperature gauge has nothing to do with telling the fan to go on and off. Razz

A workshop manual might tell you the temperature the fan switch trips at. On the Thundercat the engine is basically starting to melt before the fan cuts in.
