In theory yes by a tiny amount but the sea moves around a lot and measuring it so accurately would be impossible.

No. Because natural erosion and melting pack ice would cancel out any drop in sea level.

No. Natural variation cancels out any effect we might have (by floating boats or removing sponges).

Boats tend to pretty much sit on the surface with little in the way of water displacement, unlike ships. The effect of boats and ships on the sea as a whole is insignificant when we consider how vast the oceans are.

What Hetzer said. Thanks. Thumbs Up

I could give you figures. 5-7 million hectares of soil erosion world wide every year, 2mm average sea level rise every year. Icebergs etc probably displace more water than all the boats on or in (sunken) the water.

But I cant be arsed looking the info up. Laughing

I've thought about this and decided the levels would drop less if we squeezed all the water out as we removed them.

Hang on I got confused. Thought the level would rise for some reason.

Surely the weight of all those ships pressing down on the land would cancel out any sea level drop.. Smile

What if everyone jumped at the same time Wink

More importantly, in science at school my teacher said something I'll never forget.

Basically that because cars go in opposite directions equally, the world spins normally.

If every single car went in one direction it would change some shit round.

I remember him showing us a video but I still questioned it.. don't believe it really. Was he trolling us?

Thumbs Up

The simple answer is yes.

If a fly lands on a oil tanker it slows down, you can’t measure it and no one cares.

Where is this thread going?

This was my thought. The simple answer is yes. Physics dictates that boats displace water, when removed from water, they no longer displace water. That is why I thought Floyd was trolling, regardless of the rate icebergs are melting, which way birds are flying and how many people are jumping up and down at the time.

Remove all boats in an instant and the sea level will drop, may only be by a tenth of a nanometer, but it will drop.

Old Thread Alert!
