Been doing a lot of reading about which bike is best etc etc trawled through pages of advice !!

I have mod 2 next week , was wanting to keep my varadero for a good while longer but have a feeling if i pass im going to be wanting a bigger bike !!

Im more about commuting (15 miles each way) and riding through the traffic in town with the occasional ride out etc rather than a thrills biker ! ..Fuel economy is important as if its under 40 i may as well use the car Razz

I will be on a restricted license 30 bhp !! From all my research i like / prefer the looks of the er6f /n but the most reccomended bike seems the sv650 i only like the fared version though..

Whats best for me ????

cheers

Only you can decide what's best for you. Get out to the dealers and try a few machines for youself, absolutely no point someone recommending, for example, a Bergmann 400 if you think it looks like a piece of s*** (which it does Laughing ).

Going to dealers & sitting on a few bikes now will give you some idea of what you "feel" like on any particular machine as you'd be surprised just how many folks have a certain bike in mind until they actually sit on it & just don't measure up to all you had imagined it to be.

Personally, I think your best option is to get your licence first & then go shopping - you will have the added bonus of knowing that you CAN own it & ride it rather just trying on for size. That will without doubt give you a whole new outlook & approach. Thumbs Up

The usual suspects:

Fazer, Hornet, SV & Bandit

Cant go wrong with any, all take restriction ok

Fazer & Hornet seem to come out on top though.

I was in a similar situation to you. Had a Varadero which i was very happy with, but having passed my test got the itch for a 'big' bike!

I folowed the advice on here and went with a reliable twin, a GS500F. For a while I thought it was great, even when restricted it was a lot quicker than a 125.

However, like you, much of my riding was a commute, about 10 miles each way. Its here that the GS got boring very quickly. My initial impressive thoughts about how much quicker the bike was, were lost when sat in commuter traffic. Whilst the bike served me well, it was very dull, and it felt a bit heavy for regular weaving in and out of traffic.

So did a bit more research, started looking at supermotos and ended up with a DRZ. Its ideal for my type of riding, tall, light and quick off the lights. Drawback is the small fuel tank (about 80 miles to reserve), but there are plently of service stations on my commute route.

So in summary, think hard about what your going to be needing the bike for as its easy to get caught up with the the first bike you see, and roar off with the 33hp beast between your legs!

Having said that my commute is all congested 30/40mph roads, had I been on motorways or duel carriageways, then I'm sure the GS would have been more suitable.

Whatever you get, enjoy it !!! Thumbs Up
