Hi

There is no fixed amount. The oil pump should do it fine. When bleeding the oil pump through they say to use premixed fuel at 25~50 parts petrol to one part oil.

What is wrong with the oil pump?

All the best

Can you block the hose off in some way as you don't want to be sucking air in.

Hi

I would think that you stand some chance of damaging the pump by running it without any oil going through it.

Which pipe is it that is split? The one from the oil tank to the pump, or the one from the pump to the carb? The first should be quite easy to get from any bike shop, the second is a pain to get.

All the best

Keith

Oil pump + no oil = dead pump

Oil pumps need oil in them all the time or the get quite upset!

Bin the oil pump and switch to pre-mix. I run 3% premix on my bike but you could probably run 2.5% and still be safe. I'm not sure what a NSR runs on, but I imagine it would be similar. I changed to reduce overall weight and more importantly to protect the engine from being killed if the oil pump fails. Only thing to watch out for is when you shut off the throttle at speed, as the oil will pretty much stop coming though which it wouldn't with a pump. Not caused me any trouble so far though.

Hi

Quite a few problems ditching the oil pump, along with the inconvenience. The oil and petrol will seperate when left to stand so you need to shake the bike before running it. Run out of petrol and you also run out of oil. Oil usage will be higher, and is likely to be wrong in most rev ranges (so more chance of fouled plugs, etc).

And to be honest a 2 stroke oil pump failing is a very rare occurance.

Also if you run with premix you will need to up the jetting to compensate.

All the best

Keit

Okay, I haven't been able to find an answer to this by searching, so I thought I'd ask it here...

What are the differences between and advantages of synthetic and mineral 2 stroke oils, and would running mineral in a 100cc 2 smoke scooter be fine?

(Brother's Sym Jet 100 in this case.)

Hi

A 100cc scooter (or indeed any 2 stroke in a low state of tune) should be fine on normal mineral 2 stroke oil.

All the best
