Hi All,

I was wondering if people could offer me some advise on purchasing a new bike, in respect of how much discount I should realistically expect.

I am looking to buy the 2012 ER6F from the dealer, and I do not know what is normal in terms of pushing for a discount....

Should i push for pure cash discount (I prefer this) but might not be relistic or accessories or both.

I am a new rider and have never purchased a brand new motorcycle before (Or car).

I would really appreciate your feedback regarding how far I could probably push. Especially as the 2013 model will be released soon.

I actually live in France now so appreciate it might be a little different here, but even getting feedback for the UK market should be a very helpful comparison.

I know people may suggest not to go new, but the difference between a newish second hand and brand new is not that great a price differenc here.

Many thanks for any advise that can be provided.

It all depends how much you're willing to pay.

Buying a new bike will always have a little room for haggling. If they are not willing to drop the price they may throw in a few extra's.

Another tip is to phone or email a few local dealers and play them off against each other. I think you may get about £500 off the list price. All depends who want your business more!

Does it have to be the 2012 model?

I only ask as a dealer by mine is selling brand new unregistered 2011 models for £4999.

Hope that helps Smile

I managed to get about 600 off by saying I had 5% discount at the next nearest kawack dealer through a friend. Took it for a test ride first so i had them on the hook. Then offered them the option of giving my the same amount in free kit from there shop as I needed new gloves, a cover, chain, boots and also got a set of axle stands thrown in?

As said above its all about who wants your business more?

OK Many thanks.

If I get 10% off i would be happy. I found a dealer that was will to sell a new ER6F 2012 with ABS for 6350 euro before any negotiation. But they are in Germany.

Hopefully the margins are similar here in France. If I could get that deal I would be very happy.

However, most of the dealers here only seem to have the non ABS in the store which is a pain.

Does anyone know the release date of the 2013 model?

Thanks

You are unlikely to get much off or accessories with a 2013 model. That would be the ideal time to negotiate on a 2012 they haven't shifted.

Hi

Yes, I agree. I was thinking the 2013 model came out soon and wanted to see how long I should wait to increase my bargaining position.

Thanks again

Or a 2011 or even a 2010. The fact that they're still available (in the UK at least) indicates how well bikes are (not) selling. Let them convince you why you should buy a new bike.
