Mileage km (mi) | Max (rpm)
0-800 6000
800-1600 9000
over 1600 11000
my bike is very new as u lot know, and i am still kinda running it in. i have done about 1300 miles i think and i have had it for about 2 months. the guy at the shop resicted the rpm too only 5000 revs which i cant understand, becuase in the manuel it says 6000, i have a fear that when i go down there on the 5th to take it in for its first service that they will not listern to me, i wont the bike to go to its full rev's or atleast 11000rpm. i cant see why they wouldnt do this, does the rs125 make it any different from any other 125? its just really pissing me off, that i havent had much fun on it! i spoke to one guy the other night, and he said that the rs125 is so much fun and u really need to hold on, he said its like your arms are being ripped off, im not sure how and or what to say to the guy at the bike shop. i just want it to be fun, i have a cbt as u know but surley it can do more speed then fucking 50mph,
sorry to go on like this but i want to put it to rest! |

If you've done 1300 miles on it, surely to God it's run in by now?! I never thought people actually restricted anything except their right hand and their left foot during the run in period, to have it physically restricted seems very odd to me...
At the end of the day, two strokes rev so highly and you do need to let the engine rev up now and again when it's being run in to get the best from it, or so I think. The worst thing for an engine is being sat at constant high rpm when it's not broken in, or being put in too high a gear.
I'm not sure what the servicing people actually have to listen to you for though? The whole thing sounds a bit odd, and a bit incoherent. A bit of punctuation and proper sentence structure never went amiss. |

On the other hand, you're experiencing the behaviour of 4 stroke 125's at a far greater cost. |

the only fun i have had on it so far was when i was at the traffic lights and i reved the bike to 1100rpm or something like that let the clutch out, and fucking hell..... the bike went like a rocket, and then after that short burst of speed the bike jerked forward and we where back to 5000 rpm u know what else really gets in my skin, when the guy wheeled the bike out the show room, he said, "have fun mate" now when i look back on that, i think he might have been taking the piss. |

that chart for running your bike in is way too soft and will harden the rings and probley glaze the bore which shortens life and performace of the engine with running it you can,t be too soft or too hard. l go by first 60 miles below 5,000 revs 60-100 miles below 7,000 revs and after that ride the bike normally just not redlining it till the 500 mile cyclinder head bolt check. ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

Hi
1300 miles is 2000km, so you are beyond even those running in rules.
There are 2 main possibilities. One is that you have one of the German models restricted to 50mph / 80kmh. Probably not that likely.
The second is that your bike is still standard. The RS125 has a massive flat spot engineered in between 5000 and 6000rpm, and the bike will not pull through this in the higher gears. If you rev it to 11000rpm through all the gears you will probably find that it runs fine, but if you let the revs drop below 6000rpm you will have to change down a gear (or more). It is possible to remove this restriction by modifying the cdi unit. Have a google for the environmental restriction and you should find some instructions, but hopefully the dealer can do it for you (many do even before delivering the bikes).
Lastly if you bike is restricted then it will not really do much after 8000rpm.
All the best

Reading what you are saying, if the bike was restricted, you wouldn't even get the rev's past 8000 rpm.
The aprilia has two mods, one is the cdi which restricts fuel between 5 - 6500 rpm, and the rave valve which restricts the rev limit to 8000 rpm. You ca check to see if you have the rave vavle by undoing the tank and looking to the right side of the engine, it should be a gold coloured cylinder.
Also just try getting past 6000 in first and second ____________________ Bikes owned: Aprilia RS 125 GP1 2003 (Now sold), Suzuki GSX-r600 1997 (streetfightered), https://www.bikepics.com/members/sychosis/

Hi
He is right, the power valve being missing does not restrict revs, just stops the bike having any extra power over 8000rpm. It will still rev out in the lower gears although there is no real point to doing so.
The CDI restriction is the most likely, combined with a rider who has not yet discovered that you need to thrash the engine to get it to go well. The CDI unit does not restrict fuel, it retards the ignition timing a massive amount (about 15 degrees) between 5000 and 6000rpm.
All the best
