So much for going into administration and now they are back, and I think they've lost a lot of loyal customers not knowing their gaurantees will be honoured or not in a year or two.

So, are they now trying to old High Street tactic going out of business when they are note really just to clear old stock for new?

No. They've shut several stores; I suspect the chain as a whole was unprofitable, and the parent company has bought out the parts it thought it could make money with, and structured a deal to get rid of the debt. Trying to trade a business out of a debt hole is really hard, especially if a large chunk of it is unprofitable. They probably should have taken action a year or two before, to avoid the painful PR this must have produced.

Shame the Bristol one is gone, but I suspect they struggled to compete with Fowlers just down the road.

Good. I like their stuff and I think their prices are fine. Shame my local HG didn't make the cut but I don't mind travelling when I want stuff.

What 'independent ones' are you thinking of?

Not many I know of and in a suppressed market it's difficult to find decent quality.
HG branded gear is very good and not so expensive for what you get.
I have not thrown out many HG jackets/Troos/Boots over the years. Riding in all sorts of weather.

Pity this all happened but the shops were struggling as lots of folk are feeling the pinch. If you can make your gear last till you have the spare cash to buy new then no need to visit HG or anywhere else for that matter.

Err, no, they were genuinely in administration - and probably still are trading under administrators. That and they've probably just pheonix'd a load of old debt.

I would imagine footprint is only a quarter of the story. Administrators have a habit of cutting things down to bare bones; only most profitable stock lines will be held, stock levels cut to just in time, extra personnel / overtime goes out the window etc etc

J and S Accessories on Station Road, Finedon (on the right handing left the village) have a decent range at reasonable prices.

World of Bikes in Corby do a reasonable selection of clothing and accessories as well.

You can still visit dealers to look at lids and own-brand clothing (Yamaha Northampton, BMW Northampton and Triumph Wellingborough spring to mind).

HG Leicester isn't too bad to get to, either.

There's a bike shop on Higham Ferrers high street that looks as though they have a decent range of accessories but I've yet to visit when they're open.

We're not overly well catered for at the budget end of the market but there is some stuff there.

HG Germany have bought the UK brand from the administrators, and kept a few of the more profitable stores, I believe.

My local store in Peterborough has shut down, leaving us with only the bike dealers whose gear seems to be quite overpriced. I always used to buy my stuff from HG because it was decent stuff.

I will be interested to see what the online prices are like when the website opens.

2/3 of stores closed, and straight in with the bullshit "sale" of marked up gear again. Sad

Didn't work last time, why would it work now? Just offer the bloody stuff with a reasonable sticker price on it, its not like doing price comparisons is difficult these days.

Up to a point. If you were a supplier who'd just been given the shaft by Old Hein Gericke, how much more credit would you (or could you afford to) extend to New Hein Gericke?

Dafuq you know?

I've had my Heinz Gherkin leather trousers for 8 yrs. Worn daily, zips replaced a couple of years ago, but still perfectly useable. Your "independent" overpriced chinese tat-shifters can kiss my festering stump.

Exactly this. I find HG stuff is decent quality, and the staff at the Stoke branch were decent people, I feel sorry for them losing their jobs. It's shame HG Stoke isn't going to reopen, but not going to grumble about AGV lid and HG jacket I got at less than half price in the closing down sale Laughing .

Sorry mate, Spangle was right, John Lee is in Higham Ferrers, I bought my Sidis from them a couple of weeks ago.

Very helpful and the best price I could find, a good 20 quid cheaper than the next cheapest.

The only thing that would make this news more awesome was if you told me they are adopting the "free vend" tea and coffee machine the York branch used to have.

Looks like I'll have to dig out my Infinity club card!

You've made me happy!
