Fazer 600 or hornet?

Sorry if this has been asked before but i really cant decide on which one to get. I like both bikes.i was looking at the foxeye version of the fazer and hornet around 2002. which ever one i go for it needs to be the faired version. i want it to be quite comfortable to for long journeys but it also needs to be fun and give decent mpg. im probably going to be using the bike in the rain to so i dont want a bike thats going to rust and get ruined by the rain. so which one would you recommend? thanx

Funnily enough I've sat on both today in local dealers.

Have to say that although I've like the hornet from afar it just didn't feel right when astride it - however the fazer felt more comfortable in every way.

But I'm undecided on next bike yet, currently riding an er5 & a zzr6 of which one if not both will be moved on very soon.

My daily commute is set to increase by 20 miles totalling 60 mile per day + I need to do a 400 mile round trip 2-3 times per month too, not sure I'd enjoy that on the hornet, very undecided on what to go for next + budget will be a major factor.

Test ride both if possible, that will help you decide a little easier

i did my test on a er5 and i didnt like it. i kept getting pins and needles feeling in my hand every time i was on it for more than an hour

Either. Do a test ride, and then make the decision based on what YOU think. Afterall, it's going to be you that rides it.

I use my er5 daily & it's a good work horse / hack, but whenever I'm 2 up it don;t want to know

I did my das on one too, very forgiving etc: but soon searching for more than they offer

I;m honestly not trying to sell mine, but of everything I rode in that kind of bracket, it was more or less the best.

30 mile commute with no hassles, longest day in the saddle is bolton > newcastle and back and it was comfy the entire way. Even better with slightly higher bars (renthal one higher than the lowest).

Things I've had to do to mine in the last 24 months /20K:
Rebuild rear caliper - they're underslung so get full of cruft and are generally a bit naff.
Rebulid front caliper & mc - about £40 in parts and an afternoons work, calipers don't like salty roads.
New C&S
New Plug Caps.
+ services etc.

Since I'm pretty convinced all the brake parts were original I don't really begrudge doing those either.

ive tried all bike shops around here(blaenau ffestiniog) and no one has any. my previous bike was a yamaha ybr 125 though and i found that nice to ride

Got a 2003 Fazer as my first big bike and can't fault it. A great all rounder, a docile commuter but goes like a rocket if you want it to. Longest fast run I've done is 103 miles and not felt fatigued. Averages 55 mpg.

My wifes W reg 600 fazer has been abused, chucked up the road, track day tool, winter hack and it still starts first time, every time. I can't fault it at all.

Both are really good bikes, I would test ride both and get the one you like.

Don't think you will disappointed with either though.
