Rubbish! Prep day for Mod 2

Hi all

Today was a day to forget! It was my first real experience of riding in the wet. Something I worked myself up about. I was mainly cautious about slipping and sliding everwhere due to not knowing the limits of how far i could go until the bike dropped beneath me (which i now know takes alot as long as your not being an idiot). So with a pep talk from the instructor, doing everything as smooth as possible was the main goal and he said i would be fine.

During the session i was forgetting to do things that i had been fine with up until today (faulted for forgetting the odd savers, running wide when leaving junctions, observation ahead)

I felt really wound up during the session, not riding as well as i knew i could. A faulty radio ear piece didnt help which resulted in going the wrong direction a few times, fearing i was peeing the instructor off was also a contributing factor of cock ups.

But as i said, towards the end of the session when confidence had built up and the advice from the instructor had sunk in, i seemed to be fine. Getting rid of car driving habits is a bitch!

Im putting it down as an off day but also hoping it doesnt rain on my mod 2 atleast i have experienced the rain and it wont be as terrifying as today. It all counts as experience at the end of the day, better it happened today and not on test day.

You will have good sessions and bad sessions. As the lessons go on, you'll have more and more good sessions as your confidence builds.

The worst lesson I ever had was the one on the way for my Mod 2. I made mistake after mistake, some serious, some comical which had a bus driver in stitches .
Got to the test centre, my instructor gave me a bit of an ear bashing.

10 mins later was my Mod 2 and I felt so at ease. It was one of the best rides i've ever had.

Take on the positives, learn from your mistakes and stay positive

Its always good to hear your not the only one doing silly mistakes, like you said everyone has their moments.

Im actually looking forward to the test, i think it would be easier with it just being me and the examiner telling me where to go rather than 2 of us out with 1 instructor. Can be off putting sometimes when your listening to whats going on with the other learner when hes doing mistakes. I think about his mistakes then il do them myself!

Somebody on here said to another chap about to take his part two test, that he'd be best to treat the test as if he was out for a ride on his own, but with some nice guy follwoing in a car being a sat nav for him.

For some reason that's sunk in for me, and I shall be taking that advice myself on the day. (along with anything else anyone wants to add of course!)

The sat nav idea's good, I've also heard people suggest humming or whistling to yourself to stay nerve-free, or even talking cheekily back to the examiner after getting an instruction (when they can't hear of course)!

You've given me an idea though, I haven't been out in the wet much and can't count on it being dry when I try again at mod2. It'd be worth getting wet to have the experience and subsequent confidence in those conditions.

i posted something similar about my mod 1 practice today buddy. it was a hard day indeed! simple fuck ups on roundabouts, getting confused with simple instructions!

i'm putting it down to an off day and nerves. you should too keep it as that one day, and nail the mod 2! good luck!

if it's any consolation, i did my mod 2 in torrential rain/storm on a cruiser with a big fat back tyre.
Slid all over the road pulling out of corners at 10 mph but held it every time.
Hazard of biking tbh, we all have off days!

Iv put it behind me now, feel alot better and im concentrating on what needs improving for next time.

I cant stop looking at bikes now though...so close!

It must be catching! I've just come back from a ride out and I was appalling. My confidence all is all of a sudden shot and my Mod2 just days away!!

I'm hoping its just a one off bad day, we all have them I suppose...but why a few days before my test? on today's performance the examiner would have to be blind to pass me.

I honestly think that a bad day is the bike gods way of reminding you that it's not as easy as it looks.

Lets face it, a bad day makes you more detemined to get it right next time you go out, and depending on what daft things you did on your bad day, you won't be doing them again coz you've learnt from it.

Therefore a bad day makes you a better rider in te long run.
