Am working very hard on Manning The F Up. Had a 2 hour lesson this morning, went faster than I have ever ridden (not saying a huge deal), coped with some quite challenging hazards, including someone broken down in the middle of a busy road, and then worked hard on bike control at slow speed, using rear brake and clutch.

Was really concentrating and doing U turn after U turn reasonably well when I started to shake and panic. I pulled the bike over and thought I was going to burst into tears. The instructor was really nice. We had a 5 minute break and a chat about how I was feeling, before getting on and carrying on. I rode home without incident.

I am still tense and shaking now. Am going to have a hot bath to see if that helps, but WTF is this all about? Am actually getting the hang of it all, why wobble now? Is there such a thing as a 'Bike-Psych'? I think there should be...

I can't think what happened beyond a bit of hypoglycemia - did you have a load of doughnuts for breakfast?

From your post I'm getting the idea you're not going to let this stop you. That's the best course of action I can recommend. Smile

Hyper is too much, hypo is low blood sugar. Low blood sugar would certainly give you the shakes, possibly make you agressive too.

doughnuts for breakfast could cause hypoglycaemia because you get a spike in sugar and feel great for a bit, then you crash and it goes the opposite way.

good on you for carrying on. having a breather is sometimes all that's needed. Smile al the best

Yeah, I felt pulling over and crying this afternoon!.... Cos after doing pretty well on the roads the past few week and feeling confident, I go out this afternoon and I was bloody awful....floundering at junctions, forgetting lifesavers, not indicating, braking too hard, generally being shite at islands, going over the speed limit etc etc.....I've just put the bike in the garage and come away thinking that if I ride like that on my Mod2 next week then its a guaranteed FAIL..so frustrated at myself cos I've been fine up till now, but all of a sudden with just a few days to go till my mod2, its all going Pete Tong!

Will not give up. Ever. thepuma, am sympathetic but get back on the bike. Don't let it get inside your head.

Thanks everyone, think I might be coming down with something. Stinking headache now and my vision's starting to go..

It's a woman thing, in those situations men tend to get pissed off and defensive and women tend to cry.

It doesn't say anything about your abilities so just carry on and keep learning.

Thumbs Up

IMO you need to stop thinking that normal everyday things are "challenging".

It is hindering your progress.

Get into the mindset of "see problem, react to it". Thumbs Up
What would you do if you were in the truck?
Same thing probably.

Relax. Once you actually get on to the mod 2 test you'll fall back into it. You know you can focus when you need to, you did it for mod 1 - and really, that IS the hard one. Mod 2 is riding about and not dying or killing anyone else. Keep you obs up, sing "let's go fly a kite" while you're doing it... You can even change the words...

Let's go fly a kite,
Obs to the left and right...

etc..

I've just got back in after 4 hours out and about on my little CBF. It's not the fastest bike, but I tell you what I still feels great and having passed my tests my confidence is up (just in time for another off? Possibly).

I swear, once those L plates are off, you get a lot more respect and that helps the confidence.

Actually did my first ever filtering today. Big queue of traffic, I pootle up the outside... get to the petrol station 500m away, turn into it. Came out, all the traffic was gone...

I would put it down to a bit of frustration and boredom, I felt like crying when I was made to practice those damn U turns for hours on end!

I am sure after a long soak and a good nights sleep, you will be right as rain tomorrow Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Baked Alaska? I can't cook but I know they don't look the same... I've got a female friend who's a chef .. she'll know... Al-ask-a (I'll ask her).. Oh come on that one was brilliantly crafted!

You're right, Baked Alaska is made with meringue. Not sure about the brilliant craftsmanship, but people who laugh at their own jokes do make me laugh. (Am easily pleased..).

It might actually be worth taking the day off tomorrow and not riding at all, or even doing it later in the day so that you're more eager to get out there.

Are you doing it on a big bike or on your 125? Don't forget, bigger bike is a lot more forgiving with the gears.

On my CBT I had a ''burst into tears, couldn't carry on moment''. Mine was down to exhaustion, frustration and general pressure.
I went home and tried again some weeks later.

I never had lessons, but if you are putting yourself under pressure to 'do well'..... then it's time to chill a bit.

When I first got my bike I was chuffed to make it to the end of the road and back. Then I ventured out to a local roundabout and back. Me 'n' Hubbs were sharing a bike to practice on at the time.

One day I made iit to the next town, 6 miles away!! after that there was no stopping me Smile

The gist of all that is take things at your pace. Bit difficult on a lesson, cos time is money, try to relax.

How long between breakfast and the lesson starting and how close to your usual lunch time?

My wife tends to get shaky if she doesn't eat within the realms of close to usual times.

Nice long soak, a glass of something and a bit of TV then get back out there tomorrow Very Happy
